If your K-1 is pausing between shots in single-shot mode, that's got absolutely nothing to do with UHS-I vs. UHS-II.

UHS-1 vs. UHS-II bus speed only affects your ability to take pictures after you've accumulated maybe 74 JPEG, 17 RAW, or 13 RAW+JPG images in the buffer and the camera is waiting to write out an image over the bus to the card before taking the next shot.

Slow shooting in single-shot mode is probably due to some combination of using CPU-intensive image corrections or maybe some interactions with the AF system.

It's worth noting that BOTH Nikon and Sony made the same "UHS-1" mistake with their 36 Mpix FF cameras, the D810 and the A7Rii. And neither of those cameras can do 4k video either because the sensor simply can't do it.

LOL! That brings back so many memories of the smell of that oily paper tape and the clatter of the 110 BAUD TTY THAT COULD ONLY PRINT CAPITAL LETTERS. Oh, and those tiny little punch dots made great confetti.

Lets see... 24 megapickle RAW... at 110 baud... that should take about 4 weeks. (And there's wimps who complain about how long the K-1 takes to clear it's buffer!)

How about having a little cassette filled with maybe 12 to 36 micro SD cards inside. You drop the cassette in the back of the camera and thumb-crank a lever to load a fresh SD card. Every time a card fills up, you crank the lever!

We've talked about SSDs in cameras before and it seems like a workflow nightmare unless the SSD is so large it can contain an entire day's shooting (in which case the SSD becomes a huge risk of loss.)

Moving images off the SSD so one can continue shooting would really suck. It would take time and the user would need to be extremely careful about keeping track of which photos they've copied and which can be deleted to free up space. It's much faster to pop in another card and keep shooting.

If a removable card gets an error, you can immediately swap in another card, continue shooting, and take the faulty card home for careful recovery. If an SSD gets an error, you are in a world of hurt.

An internal SSD also has the disadvantage that if the camera's battery is dead, there's no way to get the images off the camera until the battery is recharged. A removable card can be taken out and read by another device.

An internal SSD makes the entire camera more expensive, harder to use, and less reliable. The better way for speed is a faster removable card system including true simultaneous writing to both slots. Of course, there's a good chance that will require a larger, more powerful 3-cell battery like some of the bloat-body Canons and Nikons use.

It's an intriguing idea!

Alas, it's also a recipe for a battery fire. Memory chips (especially fast memory chips) tend to get hot and lithium ion batteries tend to self-combust when they get hot. Even a single hot-spot on a battery is enough to start thermal runaway inside the battery. Heat sources & batteries don't mix.

It's called a "rue more" for a reason. And that's what we seem to be doing.

I've no idea if this news is a fake product of the Pentax pessimists ("we have to wait another year grumble grumble grumble"), a fake product of the Pentax optimists ("yay! APS-C flagship coming into port"), regular old click bait, or some accidentally prescient hint at Ricoh's actual plans.

Whatever it is, I find it interesting enough to think about how Pentax might evolve and where APS-C fits into the company's vision.
