Hi Pentasonic49:

You are right, it's so small, looks like something that would just disappeared if I put just it in my pocket😂...I will put it into a small Ziploc bag, then place it in my K3ii's original box.

Thank you!

Hi Pentasonic49:

I just received Centon MR20 Macro ringflash. However, I could not find an outlet on K3ii to plug it in. Is there something missing? Or shall I get another part to connect to my camera?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Pentasonic49:

I didn't know I could reuse parts from my broken KS2!! That's wonderful!

Do you know what size of JIS crosshead screwdriver should I get? I couldn't find any information on that youtube video nor online, thank you in-advance!

Hi Builttospill:

Thank you so much for answering my question. I don't know anything about high-voltage flashes, your detailed explanation really helps! I'll stay away from Vivitar 283 and some other older flashes.

Hi Steve:
Here in central Texas, we have to deal with venomous snakes all the times. However, I was told "do not engage, or kill any snake, even it's in your backyard".... The best way to deal with a venomous snake in your property is to call the animal control, 311, or post on the local facebook snake ID group, there are many snake lovers on facebook will come flying to your house, remove that snake from your yard. We also have rattlesnake/copperheads vaccine for dogs, (about $50 per shot) I heard many cattle ranchers vaccinated their beloved cattle dogs. :)

Hi Pentasonic49:

I have an old and broken KS2, I'll get a JIS crosshead screwdriver from amazon and then practice on that camera first!
Thank you so much for your advice, that's very very helpful!

Hi aslyfox:

Thank you very much! Everyone here is so helpful, I've learned so much. I am going to order parts online, then ask my mom to find someone in Taiwan to fix for me.

Hi Pentasonic49:

That video is awesome! I think I can take the screw out myself. I am good with my hands and have made some DIY beadwork with small tools and tiny beads. Thank you so much for sharing that video!

Hi Pentasonic49:

That's so cool! I do have a cheap ring flash that I bought from Amazon, but I don't use it as a "camera flash" , just as a "ring light". I'll look into that Centon ringflash with a sync cord! Thank you so much for the information, that's very helpful.

Update: I really wanted to fix k3ii, since Precision camera Austin told me over the phone that they could fix in-store. However, once the repairman looked at my k3ii, sure enough, he said he couldn't fix it, had to send it back. They don't know how much and how long....(maybe about 8 weeks, that's what they told me)
I was very sad and angry at myself for dropping the camera....my poor husband felt sorry for me so he sold some of his vacation times and bought a new K1ii @ Adorama.
Adorama was closed last week for the Easter Holiday, so I'll get my new K1ii on this comingThursday.
My K3ii is still working, just no flash. I don't know what to do with that loose screw is still floating somewhere inside my camera. It's out of my hands so I'll just let it "float".
I still want to fix my K3ii, just don't want to wait 2 months and without knowing how much it would cost to fix it.

Michelle

(PS One more question: Can I use K3ii sync socket for Pentax AF360FGZII flash? I read the menu it said "Can the sync socket be used for professional flashes? A: Yes, it can. However, some professional flashes use extremely high voltages. The use of such flashes may cause the camera to breakdown. Before using the flash, check its specification in advance"....so what kind of equipments do I need to buy to use k3ii sync socket as a flash trigger for pentax AF360FGZII flash?)
I'll post my question a new thread..

To aslyfox
Thank you so much for the information! I did some research on KP and K1ii, and I decided to buy a K1ii.
I don't think I am good enough to repair the camera myself....I think l have to send it to someone who have parts to fix Pentax camera.

Michelle

Hi Mikesbike:
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment! That's very helpful. I agreed with you, and really wanted to get a KP...since the price at B&H is so attractive. I have a K70 and love it! I mainly use it for daytime wildlife photography, such as wild birds, butterflies and dragonflies. I only use K3ii for night time insect macro photography and wild flowers.
However, my husband insisted to buy a K1ii, since he is paying for it.....

Not a Number:

After I saw your post, I checked my camera and poked it with a tiny toothpick, now that screw dropped into the body. :(

What do I do? is it ok or just leave it in there?

Pentasonic49:
Thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I agreed with you and I would love to send it to a smaller repair shop. Sadly, there is no smaller camera repair shop here, all we have is Precision camera and they don't have parts for pentax camera, so they have to send it to somewhere else. (I am still waiting for them to fix my Pentax 300 mm lens, it's more than 7 weeks already.) I called them yesterday and they said they could fix it....now I am debating if I should spend $300 to fix K3ii or just get a new K1ii.

Thank you very much Astro Dave.
Snakes are wonderful, even venomous snakes, they are part of nature. I have many encounters with venomous snakes (mostly Western rattlesnakes) here in central Texas, but this one was my first Copperhead.

You are right, I don't think I could just tape it or glue the hotshoe back, have to get someone professional to repair my camera. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment, it really helps!!

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment..."When we humans venture into nature, we should leave no trace"..well said Peter! (Except a small part of hotshoe plate that I left somewhere on the forest floor)

No, I didn’t...it was just trying to find something to eat. I always leave snake alone. Killing them may do more harm than good.😊

That diagram posted by “Not a Number” is very helpful. I just checked my camera, only two things are missing, one is CNL -D1.7x2.5 screw (broken I assume) and A330 hot shoe ground plate.

Michelle

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 08:50 PM ----------

Surprisingly, it’s still there! But the ground plate A330 is on the forest floor somewhere....☹️

Michelle

That’s very helpful! Thank you so much for your advice! Every time when I go to hardware store, I often overwhelmed by so many different types of glue, and too shy to ask for help. That’s why I often avoid using glue...especially liquid superglue.

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 09:03 PM ----------

“Not A Number”
You are correct, I just checked the 3 screws with treads (U5), they are still on the camera, and one still have some “copper colored” particles left on the screw. However, the one(1.7x2.5 mm) retainer screw is broken, and A330 hot shoe ground plate is missing too. By the way, that camera diagram is very helpful, thank you very much for sharing!

Michelle

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 09:08 PM ----------

I love my 360! That’s my birthday gift and I am not selling any of my pentax equipment...(even when they are broken)

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 09:18 PM ----------

You are right Steve, after re-exam my camera very carefully with the Diagram, I don’t think I have the skill and tools to fix the broken hot shoes. I probably have to take it back to the precision camera in Austin (they are the only authorized Pentax dealer here). I will take this accident as a learning experience. Once it’s fixed, I will get a bracket and flash trigger to protect my equipments.
By the time I save enough money, maybe I will get the new pentax APS-C DSLR camera (maybe in 2020) to replace my k3ii.

I didn't know I could connect the flash to the x-sync socket, thank you very much for your advice, TIL. I thought I could just to get a wireless flash trigger, use a bracket for the AF360FGZII flash, then use black electrical tape to secure the hotshoe+ transmitter on top of camera? Will that work? Because my flash still fire when I placed the flash w/hotshoe on top of my camera....(it just won't stay though)

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 02:03 PM ----------

You are right, the hotshoe is not riveted, it was held on screws. The hotshoe looks fine, it needs new screws.

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 02:12 PM ----------

That's very interesting! Thank . you so much for the link and picture, it's very helpful. I might look into that or just suck it up pay $300 to precision camera to get 5 new screws...my AF360FGZII flash is too good for manual flash only, the p-TTL is kinda important for night time insect macro photography.

---------- Post added 04-22-19 at 02:17 PM ----------

Thank you very much! I don't know much about photography equipments and that picture really help! I will just get something like that and secured the connector+hotshoe with black electrical tape!

Thank you so much for your wonderful suggestions, they are very helpful.
That's what I was worry about the glue, it's messy and I could do more harms to the camera. I have two others Pentax cameras, K70 and Kx, K3ii was my first "real" upgrade and I love it. I use it everyday to document native plants and insects (especially moths) for Inaturalist, that's why the flash and GPS are so important to me. I already spent a lot of money to fix my 300mm lens, now I am saving money to buy a new Pentax k1 ii. Maybe I should just use tape and rubber bands to secure the hot shoe flash trigger until I save enough money to buy a new k1ii, then use my k3 ii for day time shots.
I don't mind the camera looks weird or ugly with tapes, I go out at night to hunt moths, no one sees me anyway, lol!

Thank you so much for your help!
I am sure the hot shoe is the only part that's broken. The flash is still working when I put it back on the socket, it just won't stay because the hot shoe "slot" fell off. My camera did not take too much impact when it fell, I had a safety line on, but it was the flash that hit the tree. I just want the hotshoe stay in the position so I could put a permanent flash trigger so I could still use my flash with bracket.

Hello, I dropped my camera with AF360FGZII flash on...the AF360FGZII flash is fine but K3II camera's hotshoe came off. I love macro photography and an external flash is very important. I wanted to send it to Precision Camera in Austin, but they are very expensive and took them forever to fix my broken 300mm f4 lens, ($41 for shipping plus $480 for parts and labor)....That was 03/06 and I still haven't heard anything from them.
Any suggestion? or I should still send it to precision camera?
Thank you in advance!
