Quote: Tourists can't stop touching wild animals at national parks - The Washington Post
. . . People who approach wild animals aren’t brave; they are deluded. They might convince themselves that they are neither endangering themselves nor the wildlife, and that the animals don’t mind their presence — a condition that Carol Kline, director of the hospitality and tourism management program at Appalachian State University in North Carolina, calls “cognitive dissonance " . . .. Folks, please be safe and consider the possible effect we may have as we pursue our hobby.
You may not have to touch a wild animal to affect its behavior negatively.
Wildlife photography done properly with caution and the right equipment will
minimize any such effect and you will get great results and great photos with little or no impact on the wildlife.

I remember loons from boyhood trips to upper Wisconsin and to the Boundary Waters area of Minnesota
if you approach them, they would dive and disappear
a lot easier than taking off and flying: You Tube |

Quote: The loon can stay underwater for up to five minutes, its signature red eyes helping it locate prey while submerged. Common loons are skilled in flight, sometimes reaching speeds of 70 miles (110 kilometers) an hour. Because of their relatively heavy bodies, they need a long "runway" to take off for flight and can only do so from water. Their legs trail out behind them while in flight, a characteristic held by all loons. Common Loon | National Wildlife Federation
and let us not forget the iconic " loonie " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loonie |

interesting
I have never considered the white and grey fur of a deer to be " camouflage "
it is hard to pick them out though especially if you don't see movement
[ I do like to try to catch the " shadings " caused by the natural light falling on wildlife and their surroundings ]

in my area we have many turkey vultures Cathartes aura and a few bald eagles Haliaeetus leucocephalus
if they are flying you can tell them apart by their flight Quote: When soaring, [ turkey vultures ] hold their wings slightly raised, appearing as a “V” when seen head-on. . . Bald eagles soar with their broad wings on a flat plane. Vulture vs Eagle: Key Differences Explained - AZ Animals |
