I did not mean to apply that you had
no offense intended
BTW, in my area, Topeka Kansas, the annual effort to capture, tag and release monarchs for tracking on their annual southern migration will be happening for several days/weeks in September
if interested check this website http://monarchwatch.org/index.html
and they may be able to help anyone interested find an organized effort in your area
[interesting they don't list info for the Topeka Zoo's effort ??? ]

we have been blessed and lucky enough to travel to where you can find certain wildlife, Tanzania, Alaska, Gran Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. We have also been to the Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World and various zoos in the US. Many are not able to do so.
Next trip to Baja California and then perhaps back to Africa
so I take pictures of "wildlife" where ever I can find them, and to me they are all wild unless they are domesticated.
to each their own I guess.
and I too try not picture them without the obvious signs of where they may be, if possible.
you practice with your equipment and technique where you can.
here are a couple from the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha near their Butterfly exhibit enclosure
(admittedly the first does not feature "wildlife" under any definition of the name)

nothing wrong with zoo photos in my humble opinion I don't go into our zoo's enclosure to leave room for the kids to go in and be amazed.

my local zoo
the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center has an enclosed walk through area where these types of butterflies can be found:
Monarchs, Gulf Fritillaries, Painted Ladies, Black Swallowtail and Red Admirals along with a staff person and educational material.
The butterfly species are all native to the area.
I don't spend much time there but rather spend time on the free flying butterflies

perhaps Monarchs are there because of their migration
They are among the 5 species kept at the Topeka Zoo
they are very interesting in that the "generations" of the Monarch varies with the adults living a short live except for those born to migrate

a possible useful tool:
All you have to do, they say, is whip out your smartphone and download the iNaturalist app. Created by the California Academy of Sciences, iNaturalist allows anyone to take a picture of an animal (or plant or fungi or whatever) and make an attempt to identify it. Then others, including experts, weigh in on whether your ID is correct or not. Think of it as a bit like Pokémon Go, only you’re trying to “catch” real creatures instead of Charizards and Vaporeons.
On the day of the eclipse, theapp will feature a special drawdown menu that allows you to record observations leading up to, during, and after the astronomical event. Simply keep an eye out for any interesting or unusual behavior and snap a few pics while you enjoy the show Do eclipses drive animals wild? Here’s how you can help scientists find out. - The Washington Post |
