may I suggest a way to experiment, but it does cost money
consider renting
for example I have used a company called Lens Rental
LensRentals.com - Rent Photo > Pentax > Cameras
why not see the cost of renting the equipment - camera bodies and/or lenses you are considering buying to get hands on experience?
btw, there are other rental companies you could consider
