Yes, this might be an exception. I'm not a seasoned pro who can quickly change lenses in the dark by feel, I am an enthusiastic average person who worries about dropping a lens while changing it, getting dust in if I don't have the opportunity to duck into my car or a cave or behind a big rock, and I do have a blower but that is one more thing to carry on a day I just want to have fun.

Ah, right next to Clinton where I will see the Bickelhaupt Arboretum. Cool!

Ah, that is an upcoming trip (August, when corn is high for Field of Dreams)
Also Dubuque/Davenport/Moline and the I 80 truckstop before heading back via Galena.
What am I missing?

Very slick deal on eBay, either no one noticed or I got lucky. Supposedly mint condition. The 55-300 and the 50 are the only 2 I've even bought new, so far I've been lucky with used stuff on eBay and here on the PF. One lens cap missing and one back cap missing over all used purchases.
Now for a new strap...

There are parts of State Street that are photogenic, I might try that.

Well... (sigh).. LBA kicked in and I got the 20-40 Ltd today, so this thread is now moot...
Also no racing until April and I'm going in March, so no "racetrack" action per se.
I'll still bring them all, but I have a LOT of overlap so I have to start thinking about selling some of these off.

Yes, correct, I can carry several lenses with me, but the point here is that I want ONE lens on during the day, if it is dusty and windy and I can't duck out of the wind I can't afford to swap lenses and worry about gerb getting onto the sensor.

Based on some very quick tests, I think 21 is the winner. I'll take some more under more controlled circumstances (and I had a bad setting on Kr so most 15's were too dark, my bad).

Oh good grief MORE lenses?
Well, I'll post pics in a few days but my gut feeling, just from walking around with both, is that the 21 is more useful for what I need to do. I do like that the 15 allowed me to take nice images of wide trees, for example, from where I happened to be standing, vs the 21 where I had to back up a bit. But then again I have 2 feet and can do "foot zooming" easily enough.
It might be my imagination but the 21 also seems "brighter" (and I'm not talking about 3.2 vs 4). I'm shooting just in JPG to save time.
And just to add a bit more to the mix, if my 18-55 were REALLY good glass, this debate would be over.

I am walking around campus today with the 15. Tomorrow with the 21, taking ~same images. Will post later this week.

I don't know what it is like, that is the problem. But I arrive a few days before the event so I can scope it out.

Yes, but i OWN the 15, I don't want to sell it and start over with the 14. ---------- Post added 02-13-17 at 15:38 ----------
Seems like I gravitated to the 18 end of the 18-135 and the 15ish portion of the 10-17 unless I really wanted a curve. ---------- Post added 02-13-17 at 15:48 ----------
Oh, I'll have the whole bag, but the big event is the 100th Birthday party for Man O' War and that will be his statue, the museum (maybe a bit indoors, who knows) and whatever else is going on at the Kentucky Horse Park that day. If I need the light the answer is the 21 @ 3.2 (but then again I also have the 50 @ 1.8 and the flattie 40XS @ 2.8). Heck, I have a Sony Cybershot that will fit in my pocket, and an iPhone.
Honestly, if I hadn't got the LBA bug I'd still own just the trusty 18-55 DAL kit lens that is fine as long as it is racked out to more than 25 or so and that would have been fine.

I understand, but I am limited by funding and a wish to not get one MORE lens this year. The 14 will be on my to-do wish list, though. Thanks!

OK, I have seen a few threads about this but always interested in new advice as well as reruns.
After taking way too many lenses on my Western trip and finding I only used the 10-17 and the 18-135, I have decided to wise up and only bring what I *think* I'll need for an upcoming trip to Kentucky, and although I'll be driving and having a home base at the same hotel for a week (therefore can bring everyone anyway) I have decided to focus on mostly using the primes that resulted from my massive LBA this year.
I will have photo opportunities of:
Racetrack stuff
Horse farm stuff
Outdoor attraction stuff
I rarely take pictures indoors, and am unlikely to take portraits of anyone.
So, even though I'll still probably carry a small lens bag with me, it'll be dusty at some of these places so changing lenses is a last resort. I want to put one on in the morning and go about my day. 15 or 21? (And yes, I know I can use the 18-135 but I've done that).
Cheers!
