I've had a good month with the Cosina 24mm, and like and am pleased with many of the photos I took. Thanks all for your interest and comments, I do take them on board, and I do think both my photography and processing have improved over the month. Of course there is always room for more improvement :). I also think I was lucky in coming across so many self-selecting subjects, as often as not while I had camera in hand. I am certainly getting to know this lens better.

I think this lens has a number of good qualities, not least its versatility. It was usually sharp enough, gave good natural color, capable of interesting and tasteful bokeh, and, as Sandy noted, good subject isolation through selective focus at wider apertures. The coatings did flare if you worked at angling it towards the sun, and it was fun trying to use that. The flare did catch me out a couple of times but I have found in the past a generic $5 aluminium hood will work. The wide angle was good for land or city-scape, architecture, and surprisingly, street photography. Close focusing ability was good, at 20 or less cm, and while the wider angle was wasted on a number of smaller subjects, even with close up filters, I was very happy with the greater apparent depth of field, and it did also help in environmental portraits. I found it a small and handy lens on the camera, with a focal throw that left me a little lost at times, but probably helped me find that finer focus at shorter distances that was such a feature of the lens. I was also surprised, though it should have made sense, at how easy it was to pan with a moving subject with the wider field of view.

As Ismo said, thanks everyone else for keeping on and posting, it's been interesting to see what you're doing and the qualities of the lenses, and I really enjoyed the pictures. I looked that Venus up, and it was also interesting to see the three 200's lined up - each seemed to have its' own strengths. I'll think carefully before taking anything of that length on in this challenge though! I have also started, cautiously, looking at projector and enlarging lenses. Maybe one day.

I'll be trying the Cosina 50mm f2 in the June round, and hope I'm happier with it than you were with the M Ismo, as they play a similar role in their respective lens systems. I haven't yet used anything faster or fancier, so perhaps I will be. Too late to help with LBA though, I've already received a Yashica 50 1.7, and have a Cosina 50 1.8 on the way.... I'll just have to be disciplined and try not to peep too much till I'm done... :) .... knew I should've started with the 50 .....

I didn't so much miss the theme as mis-read the theme. Where the instructions said the theme was in red I thought red was the theme for the first theme day. I also had the wrong lens. Having hastily decided at 11:30 the night before to take part I quickly picked what I thought was the Cosinon 50mm f2 up of the bench, put it on my camera, and found a starting shot. Wondering where the missing stop on the aperture ring was when transferring the first 2 days photos to my pc I noticed I had been using the Cosinon 24mm f2.8 :). I thought I'd been moving in close to fill the frame.... having started out with this lens I'll keep going with it. And ogling 50's online...

I've created an album in flickr, loaded my first 3 photos, and found the BBcode to post a link - can someone tell me where to post it? and where I can see everyone else's photos? I thought there should have been a separate thread but can't find it. Or have I misread that part of the instructions as well? - quite possible seeing as I'm off to such a snapping start :)

Um.... I'll have a go. I'll keep it simple and start with the humble Cosina Cosinon S 50mm f2. On my K5.
