Better ? If the OP had wanted alternatives, I am sure it would have been mentioned. However, we seem to be getting back to the earlier point of men offering solutions to problems instead of just listening. Should anyone else wish to continue this fairly pointless discussion, they are welcome, but I am out. Tomorrow, I intend to take my own backpack on a photo outing.

Agreed. But the original post specifically stated that a backpack was required.

In construction, certainly, but not in dimensions. And, without wishing to belabour the point, I don't think it was the shoulders that caused the OP the original issue.

Long before that - it was when we removed ourselves from other creatures' food chains. When the human race dies out, no other species will even notice.

To quote Auntie Wainwright (LOTSW) 'It's not my fault if his feet are the wrong size for the boots !'

OK, I know I am only a male, but here's what I do. I bought a second-hand Lowepro for £20, scrounged some more interior separators, and worked out how to get the maximum load within it. It has : K20D body, K10D body, (each with battery grip), Sigma 10-20, WR Kit lens, Sigma 28-105, Sigma 55-200, Sigma 70-300, Sigma 105 macro, Yongnuo flash, ring flash, 24 re-chargeable AA batteries, six spare camera batteries, Cokin 'P' type filters, CP for each lens, air blower, torch, Swiss Army Knife, grey card, Weston Master V meter, sticking plaster, IR remote and wired remote. It is so tightly packed nothing can move around !
Had to lengthen the shoulder straps (Stop Press - Men Can Sew !), but it fits comfortably on my back, and I can carry it all day (with appropriate pub stops, of course.
Now me : 66 years old (next Monday, Hint ! Hint !), overweight, degenerative bone disease in spine, travel by public transport, usually walk with a stick -
BUT
The backpack balances the belly (!), the K10D body presses into the small of my back alleviating pain (after adjusting contents so this happened), a Monopod will act as a walking stick when I need it, and I put up with what I don't like. As Alsyfox says 'Use It !'

We do listen. We spend our lives listening. We try to understand the problem, and the feelings behind it. What we want to do is alleviate the feelings. We see the way to do that is to try to solve the problem. We want to help. We cannot understand that retaining the problem, and expressing the feelings, is more acceptable than solving the problem.
