kwb, the titmice and chickadees in that location (Kensington Metropark, outside Detroit) were incredibly friendly and curious. I had grabbed a low trre branch to inspect the buds (there are several oak species in that area that are unfamiliar to me) and the little thing just popped down onto the branch next to me. I actually had to back up a little to account for the minimum focusing distance.

A couple shots from the last couple days- it's chilly out! Both with Q7 and 06 Zoom. My Q gear is for sale over in the marketplace- I've had a great time with it, but I need geotagging after all.

I recently relied entirely on a Q7+02 Zoom to document a scientific tree-measurement expedition in NY's Adirondack Mountains to explore a previously unknown old-growth forest site. I managed to get some nice shots in, even as documentation was the main intention. IMGP9304 by rootshaveapulse, on Flickr IMGP9329 by rootshaveapulse, on Flickr
Likely to be one of the largest white pines in the Northeast, pending full measurement with a reticle to calculate trunk volume. Largest in diameter of any forest-grown northeastern white pine at 5.1 feet in diameter at 4.5' above ground level. IMGP9311-Pano by rootshaveapulse, on Flickr
Stitched image of my favorite tree from the trip, also an extremely high trunk volume for this species in the northeast, 4.6' in diameter at standard measuring height, as well as quite tall at 143.5' tall.

I've been really appreciating the Q system's light weight and compactness while exploring deep gorges in western NY state (both Zoar Valley and Chautauqua Creek Gorge seen here) looking for superlative trees to measure. I definitely need to get the 08 lens soon... the 02 zoom is a useful range and optically solid but the long zoom is what's really impressing me, being f2.8 all the way and still so small! The 01 prime is definitely nice as well.

kwb, sorry if this has been discussed before, but your stitches with the 02 lens are always gorgeous. Which focal length do you usually use and what software do you usually use to stitch? I notice these cameras have an in-camera panorama function but I'm not sure if that just guides the shots or does any stitching- do you use that at all? I'm used to just using the grid lines on screen but haven't done any stitching with the Q yet, and you've clearly got it mastered.
