All with SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8 + Marumi MC yellow filter and Acros
I have a feeling my Auto-Takumar (single coated) would be better for black and white, but I don't have a filter that fits it

Had the great idea to attach my Takumar 200mm f/3.5 to a 27.5cm extension tube. Pretty happy with the results so far. Looking forward to trying it out on people (my wife wasn't interested, lol!) |

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. I do find the 55mm to be a nice lens for portraits. The extra 5mm does make a difference. I haven't noticed a huge (if any) difference between my Auto-Takumar and SMC Takumar 55mm lenses. The extra aperture blades are nice; the 6-bladed versions have "ninja star" bokeh until they are stopped down to about f/4-ish.
I do have a question for everyone. What is your favorite 85mm Takumar? I kind of want one but they are expensive, so I feel I should get the "right" version.

Auto-Takumar 55mm f/2
I would have been quite happy with this photo if I had nailed focus on the angel. Oh well.
Again missed focus on one of her eyes. I was pleased with this photo otherwise.

A pic from my photo walk today. 200mm f/3.5 Takumar. Very nice lens from about f/5.6-f/8. Glows wide open, which makes it lose contrast. Good performance but I would not recommend it as someone's first vintage lens.
Some more:
He waved to me lol. There is a color fringe in the "hot" highlight |

VERY nice! Plenty of micro contrast "3d effect" and no LoCA. A little but busy bokeh but you can't have everything... two thumbs up

SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8 + Red filter
I was surprised that the headlight on the bike didn't cause any filter / other funkiness. I use Marumi multi-coated filters and have never had a problem with them. They are easy to clean too.
Auto Takumar 55mm f/2 + "integral" yellow filter
Both on Seagull 400 film. I'm happy.

Thank you very much! You do know that I am going to quote you on that ;-) :-P
I actually like your image except for that flare. Even so it almost looks like a rainbow. Did you shoot with a hood or is it just a consequence of it being an old and wide lens? The noise is lovely - it makes it look like a dream world. ---------- Post added 2017-09-27 at 15:34 ----------
Thanks. I have being working hard on nailing lighting and exposures lately so it means a lot to me. ---------- Post added 2017-09-27 at 15:36 ----------
!!! That is fantastic !!! The only other lens I have seen with that kind of "sensual" transition from focus area to out of focus is the Nikkor-O 35mm lens. Which also happens to be 8 elements. ---------- Post added 2017-09-27 at 15:43 ----------
Thanks. The top pic (with the ducks) matches my experience with this lens in bright light. Quite a bit of blue fringing in the bokeh circles. Not that it is a bad thing, it is just a special property of this lens. It is also good for BW pics!

Takumar 200mm f/3.5. It works nicely with a monopod. 200mm is kind of hard for me to nail focus but I'll practice. Going to order a yellow filter for this lens next payday and shoot some BW! ---------- Post added 2017-09-27 at 00:25 ----------
I love the last image! Do your samples of this lens have a lot of LoCA?

I live in Japan which is very humid in summer and take no special measures to prevent mold in my lenses aside from using them outside on a sunny day at least once a month. It's worked so far :)

I thought so but when I went to make sure the lens was dry (it was raining last night) it was at about f/5.6 actually. :o
I noticed my 200/4 had unsaturated colors compared to my other lenses but maybe I was wrong. I am impressed with the color rendition and micro contrast of the 200mm f/3.5. 18-bladed aperture is also GREAT vs the 6-bladed one the ST. Preset aperture ironically(?) makes it easier to use on Nikon bodies since it is possible to focus wide open.

So far the preset Takumar 200mm f/3.5 is an absolute champ. I may have a dud copy of the 200mm f/4 Super-Takumar.
Wide open!

Takumar 200mm f/3.5
Both with Super-Takumar 35mm f/3.5 with Fuji c200 film:
Without a hood, shooting directly into the sun. I have seen worse, even from multi-coated lenses.

Takumar 200 1:3.5 got here today. $80 mint with all accessories (tripod collar, hood, slip-on "AOCo" cap, leather case). It's a big, mean looking lens, but is actually quite nice to use on a DSLR. The preset aperture especially works better compared to automatic lenses when adapted to Nikon. I've ordered a 67mm yellow filter and am looking forward to taking it out shooting on my Spotmatic. I will write a proper review once I have had a chance to use it more.

Well I have to admit that I did use a tripod and cable release :o :D I am quite a fan of Acros. Lately I have been shooting Oriental Seagull, I wanted to darken skies a little bit more than Acros does.
That looks satisfactory to me (for 55mm f/1.8 bokeh). I think the 55mm focal length and f/1.8 aperture has more effect on your bokeh than any quality of the lens itself.

I assume there was quite a bit of sample variation. My Auto-Takumar 55mm f/2 is as good as or better than my SMC Takumar f/1.8. Cropped it is better than it has any right to be as a macro lens: DSC_9888 processed
SMC Takumar has more vibrant colors, but sometimes I prefer the more natural rendition of the Auto-Takumar.

Super-Takumar 35mm 1:3.5 with Fujifilm Acros 100. Kind of old pics but I think they show off the nice qualities of this lens.
