K3ii replacement

The first point to consider for any K3ii replacement must surely be how much you would be willing to pay for one. When I bought my K3 in Sept 2015 it was about £700 new and the K3ii £850. The biggest shock with the KP was its initial price of around £1250, although it has come down a bit since then. However tempting one might find the D500 or new XT3, they are quite a bit more expensive than the K3 and K3ii. The virtues of the K5 and K3 range are great IQ, good build quality, great handling and user interface at a very competitive price. The newer cameras may well have impressive specifications, but they come at a substantial cost, and those improved specifications over the K3 range are at the margins of most peoples needs. If you are a pro, it may well be worth the extra money but for most of us spending the difference on a photography course, better lenses or going to more interesting places would be more beneficial.
I am not saying I do not want to see a K3ii replacement - one would be nice, perhaps with the KPs sensor and processing powers for enhanced low light performance, but if I can't afford to buy one due to prohibitive cost what would be the point? Pentax should be careful in this regard. Nikon's upgrade to the D7200 , the D7500 is £400 more expensive yet loses some of the more useful functionality and specifications of it's predecessor and by many accounts is not as well built

I understand your logic, and it reflects sadly on the human trait for following styles and fashion uncritically. I do not think however, that Nikon will make a return on their latest beasts. I am now feeling smug that I recently bought a barely used D610 at a fraction of a new FF camera price, for certain uses where my K3 did not quite cut the mustard for me. That is definitely not to say I think the D610 is a better camera, in my opinion and for most of my usage it is not, the K3 is superior, but just for certain specific things the D610 is what I will be using

I am not saying that I prefer an OVF over a EVF. I could not care less either way. I personally never have, since I first looked through the viewfinder of the Panasonic G1, had a problem with EVF's. If Pentax were to stick an EVF where my viewfinder is on the K3 and everything else remained the same, I would not be put off buying that model, but I would not do so until my K3 needed to be replaced.
If Pentax were to put EVF's in all their current range but kept the same mount it might even increase their market share. They could even make use of the "excess" flange distance space, and put a barrier which drops down when you take a lens off to help keep dust off the sensor. They could also make a range of true wide angle lenses similar to the old Minolta 21mm which extends back into the camera body, giving quality optics without complicated lens design. There could be many other ideas which I have not thought of for this space. Perhaps this deserves a separate thread!

The latest release from Nikon makes me laugh. One of the main benefits of mirrorless systems is space saving. Yet Nikon have chosen to produce the biggest nifty fifty ever (and one of the most expensive) by the looks of things. They might just have well kept the old F mount, and had a bit of wasted real estate. They have wasted an enormous amount of RD and time on a dogs dinner of a camera and system. It may be an OK camera but why on earth would anyone currently using a D750, or D800 series camera change to the new models, and if one wanted a mirrorless FF camera why would n't you go for the Sony offerings which appear to be more accomplished? I am beginning to feel particularly glad Pentax take their time on new models. Even if the improvements are only incremental, they are at least improvements rather than a lot of over blown hype. The K5/K3 series of bodies have all offered good ergonomics and build quality and competitive IQ at good value. Lets hope that the new K3 or whatever it may be called follows in this tradition.

Probably so, but they would come into what I would class as the " Professionally Offended". I would just be grateful for the upgrades, however late.

I suppose in terms of actual manufacturers we have a reasonable number, but unfortunately most shops do not stock a reasonable choice of cameras any more, sometimes not even from the same manufacturer. Indeed most stores you can actually visit and handle product, seek advice and make a more informed decision based on experience rather than hearsay and dry technical specs., have disappeared. So as customers we become increasingly reliant on "expert" reviews and on-line opinions.which may well not be fully honest.
In the UK the few remaining true camera stores stock Canon, Nikon and Fuji but only limited range and you have to go out of your way to find one stocking Pentax and Olympus. Panasonic and Sony you will find in bigger more general electrical stores along with a few Nikon, Canon and Fuji offerings. It is rare to find a store with a comprehensive range of makes and models and knowledgeable staff!

Arghh!!! I have had enough now. The K3 or K 3 ii are fine cameras. The KP is a marmite camera. I would like a K3iii, but I do not lose sleep over one. Ricoh, just give us some more lenses!

I have had my K3 from new since Sept 2015. I chose it over the k3ii because I thought at the time the built in flash would be more useful than pixel shift, astrotracer and GPS. I was right. However, since the K70 has come out you do get pixel shift and a built in flash, so a K3iii would be good with both.
Recently I have bought a couple of old cameras - for different purposes. A Fuji X-pro 1 and Nikon D610. The Fuji as it was a steal and I prefer B&W images from it, and the Nikon as I have a few F mount lenses I wanted to use. Comparing these cameras to the K3 has been interesting.
The Nikon has generally better AF, but I have yet to work out how to use single point back button focus - my preferred AF method and of course better high ISO performance and bigger viewfinder, which is to be expected given the larger sensor The Nikon has better battery life. Everything else about the Nikon is just not as nice as the K3. The K3 has better user interface, menu systems, ergonomics, rear screen and feels much better built. Both cameras have in camera RAW processing but with the exception of perspective the K3's is much better than Nikons. Any K3iii with perspective control would get me interested!
The Fuji is of course a completely different creature, and an ancient one at that. The user interface is quite different to Pentax but still easy to manage, but there is nothing apart form the better B&W output - to my taste - that Pentax could learn from.
So for me, in conclusion I would like to see any K3iii to have the following improvements over the K3ii :
1 Built in flash
2 Perspective correction for in camera raw processing
and if possible
3 Somehow get more of a film like look from the B&W images
4 A bigger viewfinder
But more than any of that, rather than a new model of camera please please please can we have a 27 or 28mm f2 or 2.8 DA lens! it can even be of similar quality to the DA 35 f2.4 or DA 50 f1.8 rather than the Ltd series. Pentax have long had genuinely normal primes the M 40mm pancake and the FA 43mm for film and FF. It would be nice to have one for APSc.
