Relative to Leica pricing and size of cameras, it will be interesting to see the market and reviewer reaction to the new Panasonic FF mirrorless camera, the S1R.
It's bigger and heavier than the K-1, and double the price. Even more than a D850. Not quite Leica prices, but very premium.
An interesting gamble on Panasonic's part.

I've got a KP and K-1. And the 15-30, which performs extremely well on the K-1. I do both landscape and Milky Way photography(sometimes both at once) and the K-1&15-30 combo is as good as anything on the market from any brand for that.
But there wasn't anything really equivalent for APS-C. There are alternatives, but all have drawbacks:
Pentax 12-24 - Good, but not WR and slow for astro
Pentax 15 - Good but not WR, slow for astro, and not as wide
Sigma 10-20 - No experience, but reviews don't have it as good optically, no WR, slow for astro
Sigma 8-16 - No WR, slow for astro
Samyang 10 - Good, but not small and not WR
So if I didn't already have the K-1/15-30, the 11-18 would tick a lot of boxes. And the KP image quality is plenty good enough to justify pairing it with that.

Well, technically, there's the DA 560, which I suppose is APS-C but planned to work on FF. That's a lot more expensive than the 11-18.
The very short reviews from those Japanese photographers on the product special page make it sound like they feel it is at least as good as the 15-30. And I guess given this is a Pentax * lens, representing the best they can do, they probably feel that it is entirely appropriate pricing it higher than a Tamron re-badge(as good as the Tamron is).
But yeah, $1400 is a lot. On the positive side vs the Tamron, the 11-18 should take a standard 82mm filter, and not require the large, elaborate and expensive 150mm filters that the 15-30 does.

The 11-18 looks very nice. But 1400 is a lot...more in fact than the 15-30 costs now. Not sure I could justify both.
As far as Fuji vs Pentax, both the XT2 and XT3 are significantly more than the KP. I'm not interested in video. Not really any evidence the still images are any better. In fact I'd bet Pixelshift on the KP is a lot better than what the Fuji can do. And there is a pretty solid line-up of APS-C lenses for Pentax.
Why would I make that switch?

If this is real, I'm not too bothered by screw drive. As others have said, this isn't the first lens I'd reach for in the "quiet-necessary" situations anyway.
On the other hand, I'd really rather they upgraded the 20 or 24 with new coatings and weatherproofing. That would have been a much more useful addition than the 35.
