Pentax 645D/Z eyecup on film Pentax 645 question

I know it have been a long time but I just wanted to post a quick follow-up:

Eventually, I have decided to pull the trigger and buy the expensive Pentax O-EC107 rubber eyecup for my 645NII. And good thing I did! The eyecup is very comfortable, it works great and provides the much needed light protection at the sides. And, of course, it sits so tight that there is no way it could be accidentally knocked off while you have the camera on your neck/shoulder, or lost in your backpack. It is a single piece of rubber that you have to stretch over the stock rubber eyepiece, but once you do, it's going nowhere. It's very soft, but doesn't turn inside out when you press it against your face (I'm looking at you, Nikon DK-19!*). It does turn inside out when you want it to though, so everything is fine.

The only downside is that when you are inserting/removing the film insert, the eyepiece gets in the way just a little bit. It's not a big deal as it doesn't prevent you from using film insert or anything, it's just the insert brushes against the bottom of eyecup when you do it. Other than this, it's a perfect, although pricey accessory, and for me personally it's a lifesaver.

I want to thank everyone for the input, it was really helpful! I will gladly answer any questions if anyone has them.

* I really hate to admit it, but the cheap no-name $2 DK-19 I bought on ebay from China is much better in that regard. Nikon's own DK-19 has a nice soft quality feel to it, but it's just not rigid enough and constantly turns inside out at the side you press the most on.

I don't have 645D/Z, so I don't know how how good is "as good as 645D/Z" in this case, sorry. Could you elaborate please?

How well does it hold? Is there a chance to accidentally knock it off while walking around with the camera at one's side or while the camera is in the bag?

How well does Pentax O-EC107 rubber eyecup for 650D/Z work on film Pentax 645?

I use Nikon D700 as my main (and digital) camera and since I've outfitted it with Nikon DK-19 eyecup couple of years ago, using a camera without it (or any other camera without similar accessory) while focusing manually got unbelievably hard - it works that well.

Recently I got into medium format with 645NII, so, naturally, I'm looking for similar accessory to use on the viewfinder as I only use manual focus Pentax-A and Pentax-67 lenses via an adaptor. The standard Pentax large eyecup for film 645 won't do the job as it doesn't block stray light from the bottom and the sides.

I have tried to mount DK-19 in place of the stock eyepiece as the diameter is practically the same, and it does the job fine. Although, it's bottom gets in the way of the film insert when you get it in or out, so I tried cutting it off (used a cheap DK-19 clone) and it worked pretty well, despite making the eyecup less rigid and not as light tight.

I would happily use my DIY solution if only it was holding in place. The original DK-19 screws on the Nikon camera and becomes impossible to remove without unscrewing. With Pentax 645, the eyecup constantly falls off the viewfinder as it's held there only by friction and nothing else.

As I don't see a way to fix the DK-19 it in place right now, I am considering Pentax own O-EC107 eyecup they make for 645D/Z cameras. I know it fits the film 645, but how well does it block stray light and how well does it hold in place? Is it screwed onto the viewfinder or is it just snapped on and held by friction? Does it mount in place of the stock eyepiece or snapped over it? $40 is a steep price for a piece of rubber, but if it does the job good and doesn't come off on it's own (and can't be lost this way), I'm fine with it.

Please share your experiences. Thank you!
