Why all the whining? The KP has the larger battery as a capability of the battery grip and with just the standard battery is good for more than the CIPA rating in my experience. And Rechargeable AA batteries are not a panacea since the lower voltage rating means as soon as the charge drops the output voltage a little, they are no good in a high draw situation.

You don't say how many images you take during that day. Are you machine gun spray and pray shooting? Long bursts at high rate? I can change the battery in the camera in less than 20 seconds and about the same in my battery grip so unless you are taking 1000+ images per day, I can assure you that it won't be a major issue. With the battery grip[ and the larger battery, (it can use either the Larger battery from the K-3/K-1 or with the adapter, the same battery as the KP body,) you will get lots more than 1K from that combination.

Find someone who has actually run their battery out in a day of shooting under normal conditions and then they found out that it is "just impossible to change my battery after 600 plus shots." That is the only time I have ever replaced my battery during shooting with my KP during a single day. And I was closer to 700 with light flash use when I had to change.

You may find a complainer or two who says differently but I will wager that they are outside the specified temperature limits while getting lower battery performance. eg: cold weather is hard on Li-Ion batteries.

With the new SDM motors as the original poster posited, yes they would be.

I use my KP with large, 2kg lenses and often the battery grip. At the time I bought my KP and grip it was still over $500.00 USD less that a K-1, and my KP came with the DA 50 1.8 as an added value. I also use my limiteds but large lenses are not an issue when using a KP. I am interested in what Pentax has coming down the development pipeline but if I plan on a purchase of a K-3 replacement, it will be years down the road. And recycling the battery size as a major negative is not needed as it has been debunked here many times. if The new camera was an upgraded KP, with 2 slots and a bigger buffer, it would be a camera that has the features that most APSC shooters here have demanded but something closer to the K-3 body would be a larger success for Pentax.

They would be enormous compared to the current limiteds. And the current limiteds are super fast to focus when on a KP. Why bother?:)

I understand the decision to skip the KP but I believe you would love it with the battery grip since it is an entirely different camera with it on. I love it with and without the grip mounted but the extra cost is also a consideration. If you own a K-3 there is no reason to buy a replacement until you see what is coming down the road since to improve on the current models, there will have to be some large improvements is specific features. (What Nikon seemed to fail at doing with the Z.)

Not the only buyer as photographers are quirky folk! Especially if they shoot Pentax! I wouldn't even if it would be a cool throwback. Heck Pentax would probably make one for you if you got the funds through Kickstarter!

From what the reviews have said, I doubt that the new Z is a solution, unless it is a solution for what to do when you have too much money and can't figure out what to spend it on!

No, it is not! If it is not out for sale on the expected/announced date, then you can claim vaporware. my example about high end video cards and the video game Duke Nukem forever are examples, not a lens that has not had a release date announced.
Why are the old timers and Pentaxians the worst negative Nellies?

As the K-3 II replacement was never promised, it cannot be vaporware. The DA*11-18 prototype has been seen at photo shows. It really isn't vaporware until they claim it is or will be available but isn't at any price. See the 2000's high end video cards for examples.
It was originally listed as a KAF 3 lens also so older bodies will be able to enjoy its goodness also.

Vaporware is when a company releases (or claims to,) a product but there is no stock available neither for love nor money. The K-3 II replacement is not vaporware, it is in development. Per interviews posted here. Calling it vaporware is nearly creating FUD. Let's be a bit more precise in our language when talking about our guesses for the future.

Such drama queens! both of them! Their fear of offending people talking about the new Nikon mirrorless was pitiful. Her multiple comments on, "firmware may make it better," over and over when talking about how bad the camera was made me want to scream. I may have posted something similar on the you tube page.

No, the DFA-50 needed new techniques and equipment to meet Pentax's goals of quality control. Their limited production facilities and the demand for a second manufacturing run of the DFA 50 would be the reasonable answer for the delays in the DA*11-18. Gives me time to sell some stuff and start saving!

I don't see that from reading a lot of posts and commenting a lot over the past 15 months. Most of the antipathy seems to come from a small percentage of Senior members, Pentaxians and trolls who sign up to troll, most of the naysayers, do not even own or shoot Pentax any more.
I admit there are some folks who post here who do shoot Pentax who sound a bit jaded but after Hoya gutted the company, I think most folks here know that we are lucky Pentax still exists and makes its great IQ, quirky cameras.

SInce UHS-1 is old tech now, maybe the royalties on the patents will get cheaper and allow Pentax to start using it! They certainly know how to write processing software and imbedded code devices.

I see 2 9's for build quality or else 10s. It is a ten for me, especially compared to ANY bridge camera you might pick up at a big box store and definitely a cut above the K-50. The smaller form factor might come into play from K-3 users, but I don't know a thing about K-5s or K-7s.

Who is saying it is plastic? Feels like an ingot to me, even with the polycarbonate coating on the Magnesium frame. Very different from my K-50 in solidity.

You should have banned him in his initial post just for being a jerk. If he stays around I won't care since I was going to Boris Cleto him after that last post.

I don't think Pentax is Cadillac but you need to check out the new Genesis and think about how much you will save on repairs if you keep your car for any length of time. It has also completely split from Hyundai even though many Hyundai dealers will also sell the Genesis. As a value proposition, it makes a great argument for skipping the German high end brands. Reliability and warrantee service wise, it is a no brainer.

I chose Pentax for value of features and IQ versus price, Pentax crushes the opposition. they just don't pay their marketing folks enough to get the word out. (See glassdoor salaries for examples.)
