Just got a price quote: the 35mm conversion is 150 plus shipping.

Also, ordered my camera and 15-30mm lens this weekend. Should have it by mid-week!

To paraphrase Monty Python..."Medium format...is right out!". Yikes on the prices for those cameras.

I wasn't planning on the 6DII (based on bad reviews I've seen) and the 5Dmk4 both lacks the tilt screen and it's out of my price range.I think you meant don't get the 7dII, which I won't, because I just realized that that doesn't have the tilt screen either.

I think at this point, I've exhausted any way of staying within Canon. I could go with the Pentax for my full frame/landscape needs, and if I feel the need, I could do a D500 for my sport/wildlife needs (have to admit, it's a sweet camera). But that's a later on down the road situation.

Out of curiosity, has anyone here done the "switch the mount" option with Sigma lenses? Is it worth it to do that, or would I be just better off selling my Canon mount lens and use those funds to get the Pentax mount?

I did, but I'm opting against mirrorless for the time being, mainly based on battery life issues. Also, from what I understand, the lens situation is even worse on the Sony side of things, both in terms of range AND price. Not to mention I've heard some real horror stories about their customer service.

Out of curiosity, which Pentax crop camera would be the equivalent to the 7D?

Primarily, I'm certainly after a full frame camera. The crop camera would be more of a backup camera, or for specific purposes (i.e. sports/fast moving stuff)

I don't need the camera tomorrow. The plan was to certainly wait till Black Friday/holiday season before I make any purchases to try and see if I can get any good deals (do Pentaxes go on sale like other brands?). I wouldn't wait for years to do this purchase though. I don't think there's any plans for a K1mk2 coming out soon though, is there?

In theory (and one thing I've thought about) I could get rid of the 6D, get the K1 for my landscape/astro/full frame needs, and then get a 7Dmk2 (which was something I had thought about getting before my love affair with the flip screen) for the nature/sport shots. The thought process I have is that I really only need the full frame for the 8-35/50mm range, so I could get my lenses for that range, and then just get the >50mm lens range I need for the Canon. It would suck that I couldn't interchange lenses though, but it might be a necessary evil. As appealing as the Pentax camera has been, I can certainly see reasons for sticking with Canon partially at least.

Hey everyone. First post here, and was looking for some advice. I'm strictly a hobbyist at this point. I don't make my living from photography, nor do I have any intention of making it a career (although at some point I could possibly see selling prints here and there as a supplemental income). I do greatly enjoy the hobby though.

Where I'm at:
I currently use Canon products. I own a 2yo Canon 6d. In general, I've been happy with the camera. I own the following lenses:
-Rokinon 14mm f/2.8
-Sigma 35mm Art f/1.4
-Canon 50mm f/1.8
-Canon 24-105L (the first version)

In reality, I almost have exclusively shot with my 14mm and my 35mm lately.
What do I shoot mostly? My main things I do are landscapes, and I've gotten very much into astrophotography.

So why do I want to switch from Canon to Pentax? I recently drove up to TN for the eclipse. I borrowed a friends Canon 70D (it's a crop camera, and I was looking for a bit of a focal bump with the 400mm lens I was using) with the tilt screen. I'm sure I don't need to say it, but it was immeasurably helpful with my eclipse shots, especially considering that my camera was pointed almost completely vertically. During my night shots (and other times as well), the tilt screen is definitely something I wish I would have had.

The 6Dmk2 just came out (with a tilty screen!), so I thought of upgrading to that, but it's been getting hammered in reviews as being generally inferior to the mk1 version. The 5Dmk4 doesn't have the swivel screen either. I've recently gotten to the point where I've been planning on buying more lenses (a good large zoom like the 100-400, fisheye etc), so I'm sort of on the borderline of the "being married to a particular lens system" point, as I've got one really good lens (my 35mm) and a good, but far cheaper lens (my 14mm), with the rest being ones I don't really use, or would be looking to replace anyways (like the 24-105).

Tony and Chelsea Northrup's review of the K1 really got me thinking about switching to Pentax. Aside from the lens situation (which I'm ok with, as both my goto lenses are available in k-mount versions, and there's stuff available for k mount in the ranges I'd be looking for), it seems to be a camera tailored for me. They called it "the greatest landscape camera ever", and certainly the star tracker and inbody IS would be great for my night shooting. I've also heard nothing but good things about the menu system, and ease of use of the camera.

Now, the one wrinkle here is that I've also been thinking about getting a crop sensor camera to complement my full frame. Preferably one with a higher shooting rate for sports or action/wildlife shots (and also possibly for close up star/moon shots, given that a nice zoom would get a bit of a bump with the crop factor). I'd imagine the suggestion would be "Get a crop camera in whatever system you decide to stick with". Which would be the best Pentax crop style camera to go with? Pentax has so many crop models that it's hard to figure out which to go with.

If I do a full switch to Pentax, it'll certainly cost me money, but I can mitigate most of the switchover by selling my Canon mount lenses and body. So to quote The Clash...should I stay or should I go?

TIA!
