Skills or equipment?

I had a cheap flute, it was a sod to play but because I had some ability I got a tune out of it. When I upgraded, the skill I had produced better results but also, because I wasn't handicapped by my equipment, my technique and ability improved because the new flute could do things that the old flute was incapable of. Someone else I knew had a beautiful flute but no musicality, so whatever he played was flat and unmoving. Of course it all depends on what you are looking for! Do you look for something which is technically perfect or emotionally moving. Each generation of genuine photographers gets fantastic results from the camera of the time so it is no surprise he can get great pictures from his K10D but better equipment will always give an artist different options. The results may not be measurably better because the character of old and new are often different. Equally the photographer may have an affinity with a particular camera /lens combination. The suggestion that it is all down to talent or equipment is tosh! However, I would agree with the OP in that the prime requirement is capability but that is because I look for the humanity of the picture, others prioritise execution which requires capability of a different kind. Advances in equipment help us progress by giving us new things to play with but if the individual has no ability in the first place, no amount of shiny new equipment will help.

Maybe we should lobby for a new law. When someone takes up photography and immediately buys expensive kit, they must pass an aptitude test. If they fail they must donate it to Adam who can run another raffle, thereby ensuring it goes to a worthy home :)

You are family :) and your English is excellent. English is very difficult, not only because of the exceptions to rules but also because if serious regional differences so I am always in awe of those who speak English as a second language to such a high standard. Regarding my comments, this isn't his only thread. He has a certain style of writing and I believe he is quite clear in what he means to say :)

As for giving up your opinion, I agree, don't consider giving them up! We are all individuals after all. I looked at a picture you posted and it is genuinely breathtaking. You could be a tremendous addition to the forum but we are a community and support is a big part of it. What you wrote may have the effect of undermining the confidence of people (not me, I know I suck) who may then not post at all. Constructive criticism is generally well received. You don't necessarily need to change what you say, just look at how you say it.

I totally agree with this too. Equipment can improve a photograph! A limited lens will provide sharper results than a crappy old sigma! That however isn't the point. Most PHOTOGRAPHERS here (that includes you CR :) ) are more interested in technique than tech! We all have our own style and our own favourites! Whether or not you are a more skilled photographer Yuri is utterly irellevant. If you want to judge people, fine! Go for it! But don't be surprised if people reciprocate! We are a Pentax COMMUNITY and as such we support one another and don't take kindly to posts like yours. Whilst there is a possibility the intended tone of your message may have been lost in translation, I suspect the message is loud and clear. One final point, don't say "bro"! People who use that term are quite often idiots and one thing I don't think you are is an idiot! You have a lot to offer this forum, but your style of posts in this example isn't the way to do it!

I completely agree! I'm sorry Yuri but what gives you the right to judge. Many of the pictures on here are posted purely because the photographer likes them, they are not here to be measured! You don't know the poster nor do you know why they created the photo in the chosen style!
