I guess the issue is best value for dollar or the minimum needed to do the job at hand. the question is your gear, from what I have seen might actually have been the best ....Once.:D, actually though I can appreciate having fun with old equipment. for me, and I suspect you as well, photography is a form of relaxation, and having fun, the old lenses and cameras are that. you will note here, I specifically didn't want the SMC Tak 135 F2.5 because although perhaps the best, it is too close to the K mount SMC 135 F2.5 of which I already have one. I thought, at any rate, that I made it clear I was looking for something different but still a good lens.

OK I'll up the ante. Since I have never done a poll in 3 years on the forum (i'm sure there are others in the same position) can I either post 4 this year to catch up, or sell my "polling credits" to other forum members who like to do that?
I understand what you are saying but every test we do here is probably considered unscientific by someone who is really into design of experiments, I agree we don't need to explain in the post title it is un scientific, we all kow that anyway
the default area would be a mess, but by the way what is the difference between the SLR lens forum and the lens review database? the forum is the garbage can of everything and anything, and the lens reviews are the area where well written coherent comments about the performance of lenses are placed. sounds a lot like what you are asking is already done.

BUT just to satisfy your current "rant" on people that don't search, maybe we can have a computer implemented function like the one the terrorists used in the last Die Hard movie to blow up the hackers if they haven't done a search before posting.

The fact is, it is human nature to be lazy and ask for help as opposed to searching for the answer yourself.

you mean like the posts that start, I just bought a K7, it's my first DSLR? clearly probably the best body but a meerly adequate body like an *istD would suite the poster just fine:D

you're short a few clubs but that's the idea.

the clubs can come and go on the first page of the lens forum as people contribute, but the sticky would be a place where someone could go and hit the club thread

I don't think the idea is to get rid of them or limit them, but more to, if anything, gather them all up somewhere into one sopt, whether this is a single "sticky" posting perhaps in the lens data base, where a forum member makes an effort to maintain the links as new threads appear, or somewhere else, it really does not matter.

the threads can still remain where they are, but one post somewhere with links to all of them might be useful

I guess the only concern is that from time to time, they do fall off the bottom of the first page:D

Other than that, at least the present way is better than making them all stickies because that would fill the first page:D

I agree with most of the comments here, there are a lot of clubs, with a lot of good points, and litterally hundreds of posts, with great reviews and data about different lenses.

I have to ask myself WHY are there so few lens reviews?

I was one of the proponents of the third party lens database, and have tried to keep up with reviews for each lens as I had aquired it, but there are lots of forum members that don't, yet they put the same info into the club.

This does not mean that the clubs could be redundant, if people filled out reviews, because there are lots of things that go into the clubs that don't belong in reviews, but that does not mean we should not post the relevant info into the database.

But I will get off the soap box now, and get back to the main issue at hand. where to put the club threads?

they need to some how to be separate from the lens forum, or as a sub forum of it perhaps.

that's my 2 cents worth
