More K mount for me?
Alex, I've only ever seen one real live Leica in my life. And the clerk wouldn't take it out and let me play with it. I do know I can buy two of my (pretty used) motorcycle for the price of a body. I've always wondered, is it there? Like, I don't care what exactly I'll never experience. I just want to know yeah, I'm missing out on something special.

It may be shrinking, but they still offer what I (realistically) want. I haven't been into photography for too long, but for my wants and needs, the Pentax brand suits me. I'm not a pro and will never ever be. At most I may someday enter a contest. My goal I'm striving for is good enough.
But that's the beauty of it, isn't it? Pentax scratches my itch and Nikon yours. And that's awesome. Nikon makes a hell of a system and has been forever. I learned on a Nikon (Nikkormat) and it was a good teacher. Yeah, your lens kit will be growing and you'll have good glass to play with for a long time.

To be honest, I really kinda dig that I don't see too many other Pentaxians. There's times when it would be nice to ask the guy next to me for advice. But usually it's cool to be the standout dude.
There's something about our chosen brand. The quirky little by photographers for photographers thing. Like baking bread from scratch or using a map instead of Google maps. I don't want to say it stokes the ego, but something very similar happens when your pics are as good or better in TAv than the Canikony next to you in P or I.
Third little bit I dig is when the grey beards realize you're shooting a Pentax. Whenever I go out with it, I'm stopped an average of 3 times per trip. Oh, I didn't know they were still around! I used to shoot a [film body] that I got in [extinct department store]. They were the best/ greatest/ most fun! It feels good to have that kind of lineage and to invoke that kind of nostalgia. And anything sometimes you can learn so much by listening to your elders reminiscing.

I saw a guy about two weeks ago in Gettysburg, PA. He was shooting his (dslr) K-x. For what it's worth, he looked like he was having the time of his life. I'm not saying Pentax had anything to do with it, but he was happy and he was shooting an old Pentax.

Maybe it's just me (in fact I think it is) but I never thought the colors on cameras looked that great. I always thought they looked kind of garish. Give me black any day of the week, twice on Sunday.
With 2 exceptions. Nikon made a very nice looking red. And for a smaller body, like the kp or a mirrorless Fuji or Pana, the silver I always thought looked kinda classy. But I guess that's the beauty of the world. There's different options for everyone's style.

Add one more to the ranks. Just got my new toy (K70 body) and some accessories (28mm 2.8, 40mm xs, and the 55-300 for the zoo).

I recently (this coming Christmas) came in off the streets into photography. Getting my first camera, the k70.
We all agree Pentax could do a better job marketing. They've been around long enough that they could put together a really cool campaign. But no debate they don't put themselves out there like Canikony.
I would suggest taking a good look ago they are or should be targeting. Right now it seems to be (from a very novice viewpoint) that Pentax as a brand is set up to take phenomenal photographs. Oh, and there's a video button there too. But they are and have always made quality gear for dedicated photographers. And have done a pretty good job at it too.
I'm getting into photography as a hobby. With hobby money because of family responsibilities. I'm not the only one here facing those constraints either. But I haven't bought into a system just yet.
Canikony systems take good pics. And let's be honest, their cameras are a little more family friendly. It's much easier to get Little Tommy playing football with competitor's autofocus. And you'll be able to video Little Susy's entire ballet recitals. Plus a new whatever is as close as your nearest Best Buy.
I know it's really not that simple. But those are some real reasons you're not seeing more Pentax.
P.S. Canikony makes more sense for me, I'll admit. But every so often the heart needs a win.
