Yep. I'm hoping the grid screen it came with is simply defective, so reverting back to a standard screen would solve this matter.

Thanks for clarifying! I'm skeptical that it's the lenses simply because that's two rare events compounded on top of each other :)
I heard back from Eric, who said the misalignment was better after the CLA than originally, but not completely gone. I'm sending it back for him to replace the screen with the standard fresnel microprism one.

Alas, I will have to wait a couple more weeks. I did take a few shots of my dog this morning, who was startled by the thunderous shutter sound.

So I got the camera back from Eric. I noticed that focusing at infinity is a little bit off with either of the two lenses I bought, so I hypothesized it's a problem with the screen.

Please pardon the stupid question, but does the screen being misaligned mean that whatever the screen shows as in focus won't necessarily be aligned with the image being in focus on the film plane?

Actually on this note, is the standard focusing screen for the 67ii (BA-61?) brighter than the standard one for the 67?

Indeed, I asked Eric and he has spare standard focusing screens. I'll see if I can get used to the grid-matte.

Thanks! I only briefly tested pointing and focusing with the 105mm lens on. I also bought the 75mm 4.5 lens. Will test using that lens when the camera comes back from Eric.

Got lucky and found one from Roberts Camera. It’s on its way to Eric as I type.

Question: it comes with a grid matte focusing screen with a center circle but without a fresnel or split. Presumably it’s either the BG-60 or BG-80. How can I tell the difference?

Well, camera arrived today, and anticipation quickly turned into disappointment. KEH sent me a 6x7 instead of a 67... Second time buying from them, second time unlucky. Will give them a call tomorrow.

I ended up getting a P67 in bargain conditon from KEH. Has anyone used Professional Camera Repair (they are one of the repair shops listed on the recommended repair shops thread on pentaxforums) for a CLA on a 67? They quoted half of what Eric quoted. I’ve used them for a Pentax SV CLA recently and I was satisfied with their work, but just thought I’d ask.

It does seem like the price of a 105mm along with the body is slightly more reasonable, if we use KEH as a template for what a P67 body + viewfinder costs.
But yes, the prices for a standalone 105mm...

Yeah, I noticed how expensive the 105mm is on eBay. Outrageous! That's a lens I would want to get actually, so patience is warranted here. It's puzzling that there is no 35mm 35mm-format equivalent lens. The 55mm is too wide for my taste. In 35mm format, my "wide" angle is the K 35mm f/3.5.

I'm thinking about renting both systems for a test shoot, since I'm in no rush.

I took a quick peek at ebay for P67 (second version) prices. Seems like very limited supply from North America sellers, and a high degree of insanity when it comes to prices. I wonder how many P67s were ever made? The Hassy prices seem more uniform across the board.

Googling about the Hassies has indeed given me the impression that frame spacing and jamming may be a more common occurrence than I’d like.

This has given me lots of food for thought! Now I need to convince my better half I *need* another system haha.

Hey Phil,

I’d be looking at the second version (Pentax 67). I’m neutral about the TTL prism; I can work with my Sekonic just fine.

Hi all,

I’ve been a resident on the film SLR sub-forum for the past few months. It was only a matter of time before I visited this sub-forum :) I’m curious about going for a medium format setup in addition to my 35mm system.

I’ve seen some threads discuss Pentax vs Hasselblad. I’m aware of the square vs nonsquare and the form factor differences. I’m mostly interested to hear people’s take on reliability. With the Pentax system I’d worry about the need for a battery to operate the camera. This is only amplified by my recently CLAed ME just dying out of nowhere :(
What are people’s experiences with the P67 in terms of long term reliability? And for those of you who own a Hassy please comment on that aspect if you can.

Many thanks for any input,
Ed
