Great comparison of the two lenses.

If I had to choose I'd go for the 135/2.5 (v2) - such a great lens.

I've got that same lens (but branded under the Cambron name, PK mount) and have not been able to find a hood that does not vignette on it.

TBH - I have no idea - I was shooting it to very bright sun and couldn't really see a thing lol.
But I liked the effect.

Thanks for the nice words.

Here are some shots with the trusty SMC Takumar 200mm f4 (with hood).
These were shot on a crappy tripod with the A7III.
I like this lens for its reach, relative sharpness, bokeh and color rendering - and its also a work of art.
Mostly the ISO is 6400 with fast exposure times except the Statute of Liberty shot which is 30 seconds and ISO 200.
I'm pretty sure these are all shot at around f16.

Finally got my hands on a SMC Takumar 85mm 1.8 complete with hood and case. Cosmetically a bit worn but optically excellent.
This lens is super sharp, has 3D pop and great colors.
This is one I shot early yesterday morning when the moon was still large:
I like how sharp everything is in this pic and the stream rising.

Super Multi Coated Tak 135mm 2.5 (V2) on Sony A7III.
One of a bunch of photos from the recent Coney Island Mermaid Parade in NYC
If you click here it will take you to the album (mostly shot with the 135/2.5).

Super Multi Coated Tak 200mm f4 (whoops, forgot to put the hood on)...
Some pp. If I sharpened this up it would look pretty cool but for now its kind of 'painterly'.

yes and vey hard to get I see.
A round hood might work though?
Third party square hood options seem to be expensive.

Sorry - I don't mean to get this thread off topic!

Thanks! I must go to LIC more and shoot.

Oh so on APSC you'll have no problem - I'm on full frame so I see the vignetting.

Yeah that's the hood - I have a cheap Fotasy 49mm metal hood that works on my Pentax M 100mm/2.8 and SMC Tak 55mm/1.8 but it is too long for the 35mm/3.5 (and likewise for my Pentax M 28mm/3.5). I'll keep my eye out for an original although they are hard to come by.
Maybe something like this might work as it has a shallower depth but designed for wider angled lenses - might work on the 35mm and 28mm Lens hood

Just gave you a follow on Flickr - nice shots.
You have inspired me to get put my SMC Tag 35/3.5 through a workout.
My only issue is that I don't have a lens hood for it that works without corner vignetting - any suggestions?

Just picked up this nice collection of M42 SMC Takumars.

• 35mm f/3.5
• 135mm f/2.5
• 200mm f/4
• Set of three extension tubes
•Takumar lens hood for the 135mm/200mm
•Rubber lens hood for the 35mm

The lens are all in their original cases, have their Asahi original end caps (front and back) and all three came with UV filters.

The lenses are absolutely mint condition - they look like they were either not used much or incredibly well looked after.

The only issue was the case for the 200mm - the interior had a lot of dusty gunk which was from the glue of the inside padding disintegrating over time.
It was not fungus and was easily removed once I have the lens and case a clean.

These are the later model SMC Takumars and the 135mm is the desired v2 lens :)

I've cleaned them all up and mount them to some M42 to Sony E mount adapters to go on my Sony A7 III.
I'm really looking forward to using them!
