The K-1 II with the accelerator rendered certain images I did not like and did not want the extra veneer of image alteration/computer control. The K-1 to me was more than adequate so I sold the K-1 II and bought the K-1 for about $500 less. I have stayed up-to-date with the firmware and the K-1 renders exactly what I need. The incremental enhancements of the K-1 II (hand held pixel shift/enhanced ISO is prominent) may not be enough for many buyers. Still, I am hopeful that RICOH will give us a camera worthy of the 2019 crown. Certainly a APS-c is in the offing, perhaps a K-1 III with more pixels, faster AF and better video (though the K-1 as a bulky, cumbersome video camera is of dubious value).
I have always admired LEICA for their evolutionary, incremental improvement of a camera line. I think RICOH shares that vision in an ever shrinking DSLR stand-alone camera market, and steadily improving a camera line (FF or APS-c) may not be exciting to some here, but to me, it shows backward and frontal compatibility.

Hah: the old pixel peep argument. Yeah I saw a preview of the new Sony A7 R IV with 61 mp's….At some point, the megapixels, even built into a FF sensor have diminishing returns. The Pentax K-1/ii sensor of 36.4 mps is more than enough to print a 20 X 24 inch poster print with little loss of clarity (it equates to about 360 ppl which is excellent). The extra megapixels may capture more in proper lighting, but unless you are doing commercial size large prints (3' x 5', etc.), you won't miss the extra megapixels but you will double the price of the camera. Case in point: the K-1ii is about $1,800 U.S. and the Sony A7 R IV pixel monster is $3,500. Sure the A7 is mirrorless, but it's not Leica mirrorless small and on paper has extensive AF enhancement, but, I shoot manual prime lenses on my K-1 and just don't see the investment. SInce it will not be out until the Fall of 2019, I wonder what the boys at DP review will think of it

Isn't that the truth of it, but very few people come up to me and do a camera comparo with Pentax....They'll ask me if that's a pro camera. or if it's expensive, or even, wow that must be expensive, etc...I laugh it off because unlike the world I grew up in, most people are no longer accustomed to amateurs walking around with large cameras--they assume you're on a shoot or some job. When I'm in my suit taking street shots, sometimes I'll even play along for awhile before telling them I'm just an attorney with a camera fetish...

No--Stillshot: no luck there, as the OP of that statement, it was a present bought at BestBuy--definitely was the $450.00 version. My friend likes when the public thinks his expensive kit is inexpensive as it reduces the theft risk...On the other hand, when I use my Leica kit, I sometimes cover the Red Dot Logo with electrical tape so its unobtrusive.

The Digital CL has an APS-c 24 mp sensor and interchangeable capacity. Voigtlander and &Artisan 3rd Party lenses keep the cost down...the focus peaking and the lens adjustment mode help cal;ibrate the body for non 6-Bit (Leica OEM) lenses....The Q2 is fantastic, and the f.28 is great, but I simply enjoy having focal length flexibility with similar IQ.
What is disappointing about my Leica kits are the fact that they simply can not handle the harsh weather conditions. Pentax has proven that their attention to weather and climate resistance (I can leave my KP in my hot or freezing car for hours and it turns on every time), so I love the versatility of Pentax regardless of the price point.
I bought a K-1ii when they were first released (mid-2018) and did not like the noise reduction component in RAW, so I sold it and bought a K-1 with the Firmware updates (1.51) and have been very pleased. In an earlier thread I mentioned why I like the K-S2--in a nutshell because it has all of the familiar goodness of Pentax DSLRs with features that many Pentaxians have longed for (tilt screen for selfies, wiFi, etc.)
Simply: "To know the Road Ahead, ask those coming back" (Chinese Proverb)--that's the essence of the K-1 and the K-Mount

The K-S2, in my opinion is much maligned yet it is a fine camera and serves as an excellent back-up to the K-1 (I had a K-1ii and did not like the filter added on to it so I swapped it out for the K-1-personal tastes). What do I like about it? In no particular order:--
--The Fold-Out Screen is a nice feature
--It has an excellent 20mp sensor that renders colors well
--LIghtweight non-metallic body is well built
--weather resistant like a Pentax should be
--Came in cool colors (mine is white and Black trim)
--Fill-In flash does the job
--has good low-light accuracy
--has manual controls sufficient to control it (so it's "never far behind"--only the photographer is, not the equipment)
Swanlefitte: how's that for a list of good qualities....the only real issue with these cameras are that a certain early lot received a poor magnet that affected the shutter and caused black-outs. I have over 2000 shots on mine and it is going well. I hope to get between 50,000 and 100,000 before it's formally retired.
Since you use the K-S2, what do you like about it ? I think it holds up well (in a comparison with the newer K-70, it actually is as good or better in many respects).

I don't like their price points either. I shoot with them because I learned on them and I enjoy their ease use and their unique renderings...manual focus, aperture control on the lens dial....I put my k-1 in manual mode too and use the focus peaking like a rangefinder, when I see the red flash in the viewfinder, I fine focus and snap....excellent. I just wish the K-1 was a bit lighter so I could tote it everywhere--that of course prompted the need for the KP. Then I missed my K50 so I bought a new K-5ii in 2019 because I loved the 16mp renditions on that sensor. I had sold my K-3ii and then bought a used one from a Forum Member here with only 6600 clicks on it. Rounded out the Pentax stable when a new (w/out box) K-S2 was available from Roberts Camera w/18-50mm wr collapsable lens (worth about $300 new by itself) for $355. It was like getting the K-S2 for 60 bucks!!!
They all have their proper uses and are all quality products--like children, they also have their own personalities and quirks....but I enjoy them all

You were the one who attacked me.....I am extremely passionate about my Pentax gear (I recently wrote the History of Pentax piece for this Forum which I enjoy immensely). As you can see, I am heavily invested in Leica gear and because I consider this Forum to be open-minded, I have posted some of my Leica pics here (I am open about my EXIF data and post JPEG at 85%). If you are truly interested in a comparo, I will be happy to accept your personal info in a PM print out the photos and let you decide for yourself.....as an example of my love of Pentax (as if 5 recent bodies owned isn't proof enough), I took my K-1 out in the deluge conditions here in the Northeast and had no fear it would be damaged.....
I accept your passion about Pentax and I join in it, but I am fortunate enough that I can afford the luxury of having different cameras for different purposes, so my opinion is based on specific jobs and purposes.

And that was my point as well....Some people here (norm admitted this) have never used Leica or any other brand and become Pentax fixated. I am not here to bash or convert Pentax users, I am suggesting that I need more than Pentax to fulfill my photographic needs and have extensive experience with Leica (and Canon and Nikon, but I sold those kits except for my Canon FTBn which I cherish because it was my first SLR).
Finally, healthy discourse on these types of subjects is positive and appreciate all those who commented on my responses,,,,,I also apologize to anyone who accidently was misquoted when attaching to quick replies.

And Wheatfield: what is your experience with Leicas? Rangefinders, APS-c models, film M-Mounts, R-Mounts. What? You have none....so let it go. And how I spend my money or how much I have is really not the point of the discussions....is it? This is a Forum dedicated to Pentax, but is clearly open to more discussions. Personally, I am fine with my Pentaxes. They are not perfect, but I can work through the issues because I was given a great background into Photography and I will continue to post-my photographs and enjoy the discourse here. I simply feel that one should speak from a position of knowledge, not conjectures.
Have a good evening and keep shooting....If you can't shoot the camera you want, then love the one you have...….

I love hearing people bash Leica when they know so little about the brand...Press Photographers are not always 'serious' professionals...They need quick accurate photos and SLRs became a logical press standard. Wheatfield, ususally I agree with your comments and you are entitled to your opinion, but this time you are so off base it's ludicrous
In addition to my Substantial Pentax kit (see below), I also have 4 Leica bodies, an M-Mount Rangefinder, A TL mirrorless that is so advanced the entire LCD is the operating system (it's like an iPhone and very hi tech), A Digital CL that blows away my K-3ii at the same 24mp standard (has 49 focus points, low light speed, etc.) and a Leica D-LUx typ 109 4/3rds....The TL/CL have awesome (expensive sure) zoom lenses (I have a 11-23mm, a 18-56 and a 55-135mm) as well as primes I use on the M. Leica is amazing in that they partnered with Lumix/Panasonic while keeping the German build quality and ease of use.
So the question some of you may ask is why do you have and use Pentax as well as Leica? Simple: Pentax cameras are weather proof/resistant, the Leicas are not. The Build quality of all of my Pentaxes rivals Leica, I enjoy using the DSLR format and particularly, like the way Pentax renders its color and contrast. Plus, I feel more comfortable using Pentax in certain locations for safety, reduced theft possibilities, etc. Additionally, the focal lengths on Pentax and their super zoom lenses often are versatile to me in the field. However, I do believe that the Leica lenses are sharper than most of the Pentax lenses I use; not necessarily better but just softer renderings.
One more point, I am not a "rich doctor"....I am a (reasonably successful) attorney who's Grandfather taught him how to take pictures and develop them with Leicas and Rolleis and has had a serious fun hobby for over 50 years. The fact that I presently have an 85mm prime on my K-1 in manual focus on "P" mode should tell you where I'm at: Leica, like Pentax is a niche brand that has loyal customers/users. Leave it at that and let's move on.

Reh: I agree but I think it's become worse than that. DPR is becoming mercenary to try & sell units; large volumes of cameras and Nikon/Canon/Panasonic have several price leaders. An example: A friend of mine was talking pictures with his Nikon D850 rig ($$$$) and a woman observing him approached and said, "Oh, I bought a camera just like that for my granddaughter. It came with 2 lenses and cost only $450.00--did you pay less than that?" My friend was flabbergasted and said nothing--no reason to tell a perfect stranger your Nikon Kit is $5,000.
When I'm out and about in the City with my K-1, no one asks me if I got a cheap deal on my camera because mainstreamers are not aware of Pentax per se....anyway, it's anecdotal but proves my point--Pentax doesn't market for the masses and their least expensive camera with a kit lens is at least $700.00 (K-70), Anyway, the thread, with some apologies to Tanaka-San continues...

MarkJerling's photo of the mountaintop wedding is an example of the quality the K-1ii produces. Even a novice in "green' mode can take excellent shots. My point is DPR ceased to be the arbiter of camera evaluation for me years ago.
They're just getting worse....in essence, they are the Fake News component of the Camera World.

DPR has become a marketing shill for Amazon....they support and promote products that are volume sellers. To the extent that most DSLR's are a pimple on Amazon's global sales, they will routinely rate better sellers and marketed products higher (ever see their silly "Best Cameras of 2018", etc. manufacturer sponsored ratings?). Pentax does not advertise on Amazon, therefore, DPR will rarely if ever, 'toot" its proverbial horn for Pentax products.
The K-1ii is a evolutionary step forward, that's why they labeled it "Mark ii".....but these chuckleheads can't reward it because they rarely sell it. Period.
By the way, aren't we going way far afield with this thread? The original OP wanted comments on the K-1 Mark ii. I see everything from KP to Canon to Sony, et al....
MODERATOR: Is it time to kill this thread and/or rename it-- I suggest Pentax Fawning and Bashing 101? What do you all think?

Well, unless it's a photo theme thread, this is usually what happens....Personally, I am tired of the Pentax is slow focusing, their models are behind the technology....it's all BS. The K-1, KP (& to a lesser extent, the K-3ii) have such great IQ, they surpass most of the current offerings. Plus, if you want slow focusing, try a $7,000 Leica M10. Pentax has so many ground breaking features, if there is a weak link to Pentax, it's their marketing department.
I remember in the 1960's and 1970's, camera manufacturers would role out a new camera every three to five years. This constant creation of new, new, newer is just a waste. Example: most people who bought K-3's didn't upgrade to K-3ii's --at least no immediately. Why? prudent manufacturers don't cheapen their prior models by saturating annual flows of "new"models. Evolutionary changes over time then create revolutionary ideas.
DP Reviews is an Amazon marketing arm: they know they can sell more CanIkonOny models. Why? because Pentax/RICOH do little or no marketing. In fact, this Forum is one of their best marketing tools. Cheers....kill this thread--we know the K-1 ii is excellent, we know Pentax is excellent....the end.

As an aside, the KP has the same technology and is a beast in low light. Having both, I can attest to the decent images up to 12,500 ISO, but with a "limited" lens perhaps to 25,000--I just never had to use that much speed...

That 25,000+ ISO photo really represents the main reason why the KP is more than a worthy Pentax K-3/ii successor in APS-c as well....can't do that with any other camera but the K-1/ii and KP for the moment. I think the clarity of that big sensor though really comes through...great pic--nice dog too,

As you know, cost is not dispositive for me if I like the camera and the features....The KP is worth a $1,000.00--it's a steal at $700.00-$800.00 and if Pentax can make $$ at that market price, they will continue to be on backorder. The value of anything is what the purchaser places on it. Tiffany's uses $30 worth of silver and cranks out ornate bracelets in high demand at $400 retail. The key is the ergonomics, IQ and satisfaction with the camera and the lens availability. Pentax has always been a consumer oriented company, which is ironic in that it has such a small market share. Maybe because it traded parent companies for years while the CanNikOny conglomerate flooded the market with cameras that had flashy names like "Rebel" and were disposable at their price points over time.
Case in point: Is my Leica CL worth $2,800? well to me it is because I use it in manual for my excellent legacy Leica glass and it reads the lenses in many cases. Is the new K-1ii worth almost $2,000 when the Pentax equivalent in APS-c is half the price? Well, from the positive comments emanating from the K-1 sub section of this Forum, I'd say that's a resounding yes.....
One final point--completely anecdotal: Pentax users are in my opinion more serious shooters than many CaniKon users I meet up with. Point and Shooters covering Granny's B-day Party or taking vacation shots. The professionals excluded, I have never met a more enthusiastic group of amateur shooters than the Pentaxians (pat on the back-myself included). Keep it up-I just hope the RICOH Directors are reading this thread and contemplating a long-term roadmap for an icon in the industry.

That is really the essence of this thread and why I think DP review is a shill for Amazon to sell units--objectivity left DP a decade ago when hey were bought out to be a marketing arm. Period. (Ever notice the links go right to Amazon to 'price' units?).

Are you quoting only Japanese based shipments? RICOH has other regional centers too....you have to look at the whole imaging department, because Pentax also has opticals, microscopes, medical/professional divisions too. All are included in the division itself...Statistics can be misleading if you use only raw numbers....

The real market share for all camera products by RICOH/Pentax is about 5%. The good news is that RICOH's imaging division showed a profit last year so as long as they keep it profitable, there is incentive tp support it....Obviously, it's not a large segment of an international company, but any good news for Pentax is welcomed.

If I'm producing great images, why would I switch? The KP and the K-1 ii are more than adequate for 2019--in fact they are trailblazing in many respects...If the nameplate said CRAPEX and it took great pictures, it was a nice kit, I would like it. This competition of who's the best camera brand is tripe...I still use Leica equipment too...Is it the best? For certain situations it certainly is for me...The image is what pros want, not the brand...

Kunzite finally distilled the debate to the bottom line: purists will hate the 'denoising' because they are purists, yet they applaud the technological innovations that improve total imagery. The average 24mp image equals or is better than most 35mm film shots taken 50 years ago. The digital camera experience is at the point where if the image is clean and noise free, post-production software (luminar/lightroom, etc.) can really ramp up detail in a RAW image regardless....simply, let's take it down a notch and appreciate the K-1ii for what it is: an evolutionary FF camera that began as a revolutionary product (K-1) for Pentax.
