I would also say, just pack the D500 in a PENTAX towel and lets go. :D
no honestly... They should really do something about AF performance... a vast improvement. Like 100+ af points. way more widespread.
Especially since their blatant bravado in some interview 2 years ago or so, when they(Ricoh-Reps) brazenly stated that "We will build the best AF on the market."

ahem... we are still waitin.

And setting up a competitor to the D500(hopefully with tiltnswivel-display) in APS-C land at first ... may be the best move they could make.

They could reuse the AF-module and what they learned from building it in many more cameras... that is an investment that would certainly pay off and prevent many DSLR-newbies that at first bought a PENTAX and want to step up

24mp instead of 20mp... and in combination with more capable PLM or ring-drive-sdm lenses coming to the market,

it may be an argument for many to even leave Nikon.

... but to me it more and more seems its more like RICOH shareholders that also own even more Nikon shares just say: "No, PENTAX cameras have to stay niche-market."
I mean the upcoming Panasonic S1R is rumoured to get 8K by a firmware update later on... and already offers 4k(over the full frame) at 60p when it hits the shelves.

And at Ricoh-Imaging... They are clapping their hands like a mon-chichi when they raise the bitrate for FHD-video a bit and FINALLY!!! ... finally, offer 60p instead of 60i FHD...:asleep:
*snore*

If i would win in the lottery its very likely that I WILL hire a team of hackers,

which will find a way for me to hook up pentax apert. and af-protocols to nikon camera electronics... After thats done...

I will tell them to pack the innards of a D850 incl. PENTAX K-mount into a PENTAX K-1 body without those fre.. wheels, but instead a nice oled shoulder-display.
and a thumbstick ... or at least move that darn "Change AF Point"-button to the shoulder next to the ISO-button...

and after that is done, i would tell them to build a camera exactly like MERV-O wished for...
After building 10 bodies each, I maybe would sell the whole circus to zenit who would make loads of money with it.

but since its very unlikely that i will win in the lottery, i think MERV-O is absolutely right and RICOH should feather its own nest, instead of "sinking with flying colors"...

hm maybe... but I am sure we dont have to sacrifice ISO 25600 already... ;)

top ISO even on K-70 already is ISO 102400 (and I am pretty sure its not even the extended range... .wait, can it actually be extended?)
so i think ISO 25600 is here to stay.

But I would also love to see ISO 80 back again or even ISO 50
(ISO 50 was never available in any PENTAX DSLR AFAIK)
I think if it means sacrificing ISO 102400 ... then yep, I am OK with it.

I dont believe FF is for you anyway...
if you have problems with your physics when you use a K-1 you maybe should think about buying some high-quality compact thats good for macro... Or a M43 camera.

I would not suggest anybody below 70kg of weight to ride a Honda CBR1100... that just is not a good idea.

You have to live with the fact that the K-1 is just a professional FF DSLR like any other.

Pentax K-1 weighs app. 1kg.
Canon 1DXII weighs app. 1.34kg
Nikon D5 weighs app. 1.24kg

And if we are talking about a FF to come to replace the K-3II... I hope it will be also a professional model with 2 card slots, magnesium shell and for sure dont see the need to drastically reduce the weight, if we have to sacrifice anything for it.
But I am pretty sure, there will follow a professional APS-C camera and not a FF .. and since it will be a crop ILC... it will weigh something between 700-800g most likely.
And i guess there will also be a follow up to the likes of the K-S2 which sold quite well ... And to the K-70 which also was a very fine camera with the best bang for the buck possible.

---------- Post added 10-06-18 at 03:26 PM ----------

I also miss lower ISO... (K-5II had something lower than ISO 100, I fancy)...
I think having ISO 50 would really make kinda sense for what cameras like the K-1 really seem to be made for.
(what would be Studio-Photography ATMHO... I know many people see it as THE outdoor camera which it also can be used as. But pixelshift only shines for product photography if you ask me...
and the very high resolution of 36MP is also made for product photography and it also really shines, if you use it for studio-portrait-shootings)

But I dont think that we have to give up ISO 25600 for it. :)

I am saying they would not dare to choose the material that would be the right from a logical point of view, because it may not look as good as the actual design.
Even though it would be better.
short: I do know, (what you call:)"plastic" gets used quite a lot.
But there are materials... f.i. "super hard but still a bit soft kinda silicone" -(honestly i dont know what kind of material it actually is, but i know it exists and i wouldnt go so far to call it plastic)
... that just dont look good.

Plastic is not plastic.

and on the contrary what reh321 is stating, I do believe many engineers have to choose materials so they 'get away with it', since the "Design" department said and some uberboss confirmed that it has to look this or that way.

Cameras(just like Cars) get designed on a board by designers... designs have to be approved...

designs go into rendering... get rendered in 3d... as close as possible as they should look like in real world,

actually exactly as they should look like in real life ... look ----> Pentax K-1 3D model - Hum3D

OK, you have a few rendered 3d models now...

only a very few of those get approved for further development.
not until then, engineers have to choose the right materials to get, to make the camera look like in the rendering.
designer chooses material that fits.
Endostory. - OK, actually we only have reached the point of where discussions start on how to make it way cheaper ... leave this out or dat out, do people actually dig our "feature X" - beta tester said no. - leavin dis out dat out.

And so i think, many things that would actually make sense...(so for instance choosing more durable or imperishable materials of what kind soever...)
... just get lost at the crossroads of R&D all the time.

It shouldnt be like that but it is... And actually i am pretty happy with the result(s)... K-1 for instance...

even though, I think, there should be an evolution, nothings perfect and also a K-1 could use some additional feature or leave other out:
Shortly product should improve... and we are on the same side, when you say: It would make sense to use "kinda plastic" materials ... where it makes sense...
and where it doesnt leave back a bad impression of the product in its entirety.

I really dont know, why you guys seem to have problems with the K-1's weight...? does anybody in here suffer from myatrophy... ? I dont think so, cause otherwise he would use a m43 system.

My Pentax 645N dwarfs my K-1 even when there is a prime mounted on the 645... I feel quite okay with the weight and how it balances against the DFA* 50mm 1.4 SDM AW.
Its only kinda exhausting if I take the 645 also with me in addition to the K-1.

I mean we stepped into pro-land with the Pentax K-1. Some of us even carry 2-3 cameras when shooting important events that pay off real good. So why moan about 200g plus or less.
I really dont get the point sorry.

I like the materials used and hope they keep it that way. Because i am 90% sure if they pick something else, they wouldnt pick the right material. Because the right material to replace the alloy, that would make it even more imperishable just would not look as good as one wants a camera to look like.

I am totally with you.
The 55-300 PLM would make total sense on such a capable camera...
I haven't bought it already for myself, since I dont see that the cameras available at the moment can make much out of the possible AF-drive speed, when AF algorithms are weak or fail because they have not enough info to calculate more correctly(more AF points...) I estimate that it would take 80(or a bit more) focus points at least to become nearly as accurate as the D500.
(D500 has 153 AF-points of which 99 are cross type)

Its very likely that I would buy the PLM lens and lay out those 1800 dollars for the K-3II successor.
But only (like you also said) IF it has an AF performance similar to the Nikon D500... otherwise i would still not see any reason to walk away from K-3 and K-3II. zip. nada. null.

So yes, such a cam would defenitely need way more AF points spread out much further to the edges of the whole frame... and what they have to work on the most is AF.C!!!

BTW, to all the people who fear more costs for having 4K Video because they dont see any profit in it for their photographical work...:
Talking for myself, i say:
4K would totally kick me to buy such a camera
... since I realized that 4K Video would mean an endless burst mode with 24fps(at least)... at app. 8MP... which is fine for medium-sized posters already...
or for even bigger prints, given that I would use a good resizing algorithm.

I also find the size and weight of the K-1 fitting my needs and balancing well with High-Quality lenses...
On the crop bodies, on which I liked the button-wheel-display layout much more, I always had to put a finger under the bottom of the cam when holding it.. but the K-1 is sized and shaped like it's molded to my hands.

Actually I am with you, but there is no question why a K-1II ...
It's already here and everybody cried out sooo loud for handheld Pixelshift and exactly that is what the Mark II follow up brought to the K-1 platform. And why it is here.
(Though talking for my part, I never asked for baked-in star eating NR reduction no one can turn off in firmware... But for some that can also be considered an upgrade since if you don't use your cam for Astro it's actually nice to have when shooting street with the FA 43mm LTD.)

Its the same as it was with the K-3II upgrade, which "just" added Pixelshift and GPS.
K-5II "just" added an option for another body without lowpass. And added gapless display plus just a bit better Autofocus to both of those bodies.
The Mark II upgrade on the K-1 "behaves" in the same way.

If you say K-1S that would be a whole other camera.
And the thing is, that CPU upgrade alone can not up the game of the sensor...
So believe it or not, you would need some other sensor whose on-sensor ADB circuitry can deliver data as fast as the processor can process | respectively as fast as the hooked up BUS can transport it.
I am against brand-mania and since that is so, I couldn't care less who produces a capable sensor that would fit our demands.

But one has to admit that Samsung for sure is capable of producing such sensors.
And especially interested in only selling the best and capable hardware to it's partners especially because they are no more in direct competition to PENTAX or other makers they sell that stuff to, since they stopped producing own interchangabe-lens-cameras.
And if you look at everything that RICOH does and how big the company is, they could even set up a department to produce darn sensors by themselves...
But why bother when you are off way better if someone else produces the sensor for you?

But it is really very likely that PENTAX bought some kind of Samsung package...(sensor + Mainboard from either NX1, NX500 or NX1II-prototype) to pack it into a DSLR.
And that we will see a 28MP APS-C flagship somewhen next year.
Hopefully with a thumbstick. :D ;)

I admit, i maybe overdoing it sometimes.. but since we take photos in non-lossy formats with whoknowshowmuch-bits... :)
I tend to only work with TIFF files that i develop in lightroom(or silky) from pef-raw files.

I also oversize the pictures because doing retouching on oversized images makes retouching much less obvious in the final result when you resize it back to a normal size.
And convert the result back to TIFF again.

And if lightroom is opened with the fat catalogue with loads of K-1 PEF RAWs.
and i work with a load of layers in Photoshop. I experience that the system is slowing down.
(Especially with something else maybe running in the background.)

Of course... If you convert your files into JPGs and color profile to mere RGB and therefore kick everything like:
details
microcontrast
depth ...so nearly every of the image quality advantages that come frome such a high resolution high bit-depth sensor...
... into the trash can...
than yes... things are as fast as when you would work with K-5 files. of course... but that is not the reason why I bought a K-1. ;)

Honestly I really dont dare to pixelshift too much. Because the files get even bigger.

And for that very reason, I vote that the resolution for upcoming FF cameras should not be raised too high nor should it be lowered distinctly.

But not really being a great fan of lowering MP, i would not be too depressed even if RICOH would really dive into the "CAMERA for the MASSES"(A7III/S1) competition with a 24MP FF camera.
Since with 24MP i WOULD DO pixelshift my product-photography shots...

Because despite all the talking about landscape... I think this is where PENTAX-Pixelshift really shines:
Product-Photography... Because in a studio product shooting, there is no wind, and since the schnitzel on the plate is already dead or the Vinyl-Deck you take a photo of is switched off - yep you got it - nothings moving and since that is so: Pixelshift makes the most sense here.

And when I pixelshift my 24MP photos and do a bit of resize-trickery that uses the non-interpolated info from the PS-RAWs, i can reach the same results i could reach with a Canon 5D IV(app. 32MP) and that is quite enough even for the finer CMYK-billboard prints.

42mp would be quite right... but i really see that is where reasonable FF resolution hits the ceiling...
of course... there are sensors that could do much more... but where are the lenses for those sensors...?
even really pricey Canon glass shows its limits on a 5Ds - If you want it to make sense you can only feed such a camera with lenses that cost about 3000 dollars each...namely Zeiss OTUS.
I gotta admit the new DFA* 50mm 1.4 is already nearly there... but I guess at some point above 50mp of pixel-density on FF ... even the best lens starts bleeding.

---------- Post added 10-01-18 at 11:13 AM ----------

I like that idea too...
and there has got to be a reason, that no one dared to ask such a question at photokina, but Baus had that big smile, when he said,
that even many K-1/K-1II owners, will see a desirable camera in the upcoming APS-C DSLR ;)
If i would have to throw in my 2 cents, i would guess it will be something like the A6500 but with a mirror and 2 card slots. (maybe even one XQD of CFExpress just like the upcoming Pana FF)

I also have a K-x that I still shoot from time to time.
If i dont want to take photos that should be hung on the front of a skyscraper or something like that, the results are pretty sufficient even for print.
Nowhere near meh or sub-standard...
Most of the photos go to the web-directly anyway... 12MP .. For nice prints measuring about like a medium-sized paintin even 8MP are sufficient.
I have a XEON 8-core (means 16-effective cores...) with DDR4 ram ... and the K-1 pictures... put quite a load on my machine...
No chance on running lots of other programs in the background... even a few tabs open in firefox and youtube running for music in BG, pretty soon show what such big RAW-files do to the speed of your workstation...

Not that I would not love to have 42MP... but if that means slow-burst rates below 6fps in FF mode again... PLS,
Ricoh-Imaging then do us a favor !FORGET IT! and order a 36MP FF-sensors that are capable of dropping off the pix a bit faster.

36MP is way more than sufficient... If you do product photography(just objects) ... gosh... 36MP in combination with Pixelshift-Resolution and even if you resize the pix without a special algorithm but a bit of PS-trickery, you can blow those K-1 pix up to sizes you would never need.

Mirrorless on mid-format could indeed save some Pentax sales...
But I really feel they should step up to the bigger sensor, else there would not be so many arguments left...
And still I feel there is something to this "samsung/nX1 sensor and chipset-board" rumour, what may be a wise decision.
On the other hand keeping flagships FF may also make sense, only given that they build something competitive to cams like Nikon D850 or Panasonics S1R of course.
On a D850 a crop-mode seems to make more sense than on a K-1 resolution-wise.
And looking at the burst-rate(especially with the grip) it also seems more like an Allrounder camera then the K-1.
And if you only offer small diversity (just a few <3-4> models) it would be wise to make it more a good Allrounder.
But I don't believe they will give up on APS-C.

arrhhh. again... :) LOL Why do you think it would move it back in time?
Do you have any idea, how fast a production line for a technological product can be set up in the 21century?

My father used to work for Alcatel "he was buying parts for products"...( I know they are not very famous for anything but its a tech company anyway...)
And believe me... Such things are achieved much faster than you believe...

Just keep in mind what the Representatives said in the new Photokina interview:

The focus is on how the photographers want to use their cameras and what they expect from them; this will drive decisions about format (APS-C/FF/645) and type of camera technology for future products.

If you want to give a chef 50dollars for just one boiled bean in a pan decorated with one leaf of origanum dost,
... man... the cook will sell it to you.

But keep in mind that for 50 dollars you can have more than one bean, a steak and maybe fries aside too. ;)

Just sayin.

What indeed does take a very very long time is the decision finding process...
Have you ever been sitting on a table where the big heads of a company are discussing what would be the best?

The worst outcries and rants on pentaxforums are kindergarten compared to such a "neverending slaughterfest"...
And since japanese people know how to behave... I think its more like this "Ent" convention in "lord of the rings"...NEVERENDING STORY.

I would bet something that they already have more prototypes lying around somewhere than one would ever believe...
and each can surely be modified/customized to a certain point - in a breeze...

if decision goes final. there is no more planning. blueprints can be modular too.

If you think adding something or leaving something out of such a product actually is a matter of a week or so,
you have made a pretty good guess.

Just take the NFC in the K-1...
It was said to be built in ... but in the very last moments before it was released to the markets or so... they kicked it out because most of the public reviewers they gave it to for reviewing, said that it doesnt mean anything to them.

zip. 2 weeks ... NFC - GONE.

Just ask Philippe Ylan from France... I believe he had a pre-production K-1 for reviewing(before its release and full-on-production of course)
and there were more adjustments made "last minute" than one would believe... for instance also the NFC module...

Wake up!! Its still MORE THAN HALF A YEAR till the release of the K-3II follow up for sure... Thats PLENTY of time.
So why the h.. dont make anymore suggestions or close this thread?

All it took was another response where I consolidate my position and people feel personally offended.

Or does it just look like?

Even though i personally excused to you in a pm in advance...and asked you to take back your emotions and for the love of the brand,
see the arguments in a more logical way.

you guys just love to play the "emotional touched" card.

As i explained before... I am into this Thumbstick thing, because I think it will help many users...
not because of my ego...
I already told you that i dont identify with forum accounts... Doing so for sure is not a healthy thing BTW.

And i will not discuss on this forum any further around the logic behind a thumbstick because i see at the moment it doesnt make much sense
Its very much the same when some people said we need a full-frame...

I would love to go back in time and read again how many people came up with such odd arguments against FF.

The very same people now love their full frame and every wheel it has. :)

... So my suggestion is, lets forget that Thumbstick. you dont need it anyway.
... get my point?

Actually I did not want to answer any more... But since Jerling said, as long as we consolidate our positions without insulting each other in a grown-up manner everythings fine... so lets see how long that works.

at least somebody has got to keep this thread running, but i suggest we search for some other "exciter"...

What do you guys actually think about touch screens? Any sense in that for you?
I feel it would make sense if AF in live-view would be more responsive... But I am not a fan of it.

So THUMBSTICKs get easily bumped... ?

And fiddling around with the 4-way and that separate button is rendered practical?
Wait...
Didn't some people not so long ago write that buttons are hard to handle when it's cold outside and one's wearing gloves?
So fiddling around several times with buttons is what you imagine a good solution? :D

And 2 additional wheels on top are doing what? Securing the very informative shoulder display?
 awh. What am I thinking... How can those get easily bumped... LoL

You do realize that you are reducing your own points to absurdity.

Just take a look at cameras that offer a thumbstick.
Such a "thumbstick" or "intellipoint" does not have to protrude in a way so it can get bumped.
I think you are deliberately writing it like such a cool tool would protrude out of the camera like a joystick out of an arcade controller.
I find that ridiculous and misleading.

Whatever. Like always on this forum when someone makes a good suggestion, others who are ok with everything anyway and see the K-1 as their golden calf react sulkily and countercomment.
That was so obvious.

BTW : only using the centerpoint is in no way a good solution, because when you do that, you are tilting, what actually displaces the focus distance proportionally, since the sensor level is tilting with your camera. One can counteract that effect by moving slightly forward or backward... But that ain't the sense in having a modern Autofocus system.

I can see why you may dislike my person(i doubt that it makes sense to see a forum account as the representation of a person anyway . But that's another story) and I admit my posts are very unflattering and not slyly either.
But I am begging you all to see the background behind my points and consider them without taking emotions into it that derive from the very direct way I may express them.

I just hopped into the forums to drop a few ideas that came to my mind when using the Pentax cameras in a professional way.
I don't plan to build my ego or career on a forum account and also have to admit it kinda amuses me when people react to ideas coming from an anonymous account in a way that I consider to be a bit too emotional and irrational.

I have seen that escalate a few times before...

I, for my part, don't plan to get emotionally involved in the same way. This means I will leave you alone with your thoughts from now on for a very long time.

Sorry if I did offend anyone. That was not my intention.
Bye bye forums. *Sigh*

Like I said before: plumber gloves, and I can use it as if I would use it with my bare hands.
And I don't see it an easy task to to turn that wheel to the exact position with real thick winter gloves anyway show me a video of you doing that.

But back to playing "stealth"... It works in a different way for different persons...
AND even though I know there is a better solution for display and accessibility -the wheel issue-(which also mean 2 additional weak points to me BTW... we all know the general problems with wheels)

Thing is:
-=> I JUST DONT CARE ANYMORE. Others already tried to discuss that out and show their points why displays and wheels need to change to the "big voices" on the forums...
Though in the beginning most of their arguments seemed kinda logical and similar to mine. But they all failed.
So I just have one big wish to santa claus that I can't stop repeating:
THUMBSTICK for selecting the AF-POINT(S) PLZ!

Yes I did and still do street photos.
That's why I like the K-70.
Your body and your attention can look straight ahead (your eyes on the display) while you actually are pinning a person in a frame 90 degrees to the right of the direction you are looking at.
If you act right, no one will even notice the camera is pointing at them... Especially not with the 40mm XS mounted.
I really don't know your method but I don't see reaching the same flexibility with the K-1 display, with which an est. tltin of max. 40° is possible, whereas with the K-70s display even more than 90° is possible.

I render that a fantasy of a true fan. I admire your efforts really, but face it, with thick gloves it would be even more difficult to set the wheels to the correct Position.
A nice little tip for all the "Winter-Pros" ;) >>
I prefer mid-thickness plumbers gloves when it's cold and/or snowy outside...
The ones I use, have that pimple-rubber coating. Which gives you quite a grip.
With those my hands keep warm and I can handle the camera just as I would with bare hands.
When it's really cold you can additionally put fingerless biker gloves on also.
That solution is very sufficient to me , because usually I don't climb, do skiing or flic-flac around on a snowy surface whilst hand holding a 2000 bucks camera with a 1000bucks lens mounted on it.

That also sounds very far fetched to me ... if you don't know how to act, your subjects will notice you anyway. No matter how your display is moving. Especially with such a big camera. ;)
But there would be a very very easy solution (mechanism) to have the best of both worlds...

If you ask me, it's pretty easy and nowhere near difficult and no kind of Moebius Ring paradox is needed to build a mechanism that offers you the best of both worlds.
Actually Panasonic designers came pretty close to the optimal solution...
But it seems the Pana-Designers had just half
a gram of cocaine too much and ended up in some "the-boss-is-watchin-i-have-to-pretend-i-am-intelligent"-paranoia;
What in the end messed up their original intent to make the perfect spread between the classical "tilt only" and a "tilt'n'swivel" display.
It's like the 9-point problem... There would be more solutions to it.
But neither Panasonics(S1R)nor Pentaxs(K-1) solution seem to work out, while I feel Pentax did much better with the display.(because it's more stable whilst crippled the very same way)

S1R has the right attempt in a logical way but fails at delivering it and it also doesn't look very stable or rugged either.

If I don't get kicked out of here, I will post a small sketch how I think it would work...
Let's all just hope that PENTAX R&D sees it first; Because I still feel: looking at the S1R, Panasonic R&D maybe reads pentaxforums more often than Pentax(Ricoh-Imaging) R&D does...

And believe me, I really don't care if they keep the wheels or not.

I will not use them. But even if they keep it, I would love to have a more informative shoulder display because I am used to switching off main-lcd(no sense in chimping... the shot you took ..you already have it in your camera anyway)
And honestly: I very often hold the camera in my hands so I don't see a problem reading the info of it.

But one thing I would really love to see on upcoming cameras from Pentax: the thumbstick.

Because I don't see any other way than fiddling around with: set-point-button - 4way and then again - set-point-button(to get back original 4way funct.)

But maybe optimist has a brilliant solution...
Is there a Mind-Power-Af setting on your beloved Multi-WHEEL system?
(Which you actually don't touch for anything else than changing ISO...)
If so, just let me know.
But I guess we only will read how you don't change the focus at all, are manually focussing ALL THE TIME... or panfocusing, if not only use a pinhole lens.

I already said I will not response to any answers especially not to answers with far-fetched comparisons - but your logic is giving me goosebumps, so I gotta ask: "optimist":
did you already realize that you have to lift your fingers anyway to make settings? It's that turning around and indexing from one wheel to another... That doesn't make ANY sense.
And if you leave it on the ISO SETTING. What good for is it to have one more additional wheel?
Why not just one ISO-wheel?
IMHO your method makes all the other functionalities of those 2(in words:TWO) wheels even more redundant. But OK. Everybody to their liking...
At least I am happy to see that Panasonic really seems to be closely related to PENTAX because their display mechanism doesn't make any sense either.
It (only partly) swings out to the direct opposite position where you would need it... ROFL...
bwahahahaaa...
No sense in that either. But still only a little Fauxpas compared to the moonlander+whacky wheels.
I sincerely hope one day we will see a simple tilt&swivel like on the k-70 on other PENTAX's too.

gosh... wtf? still dont understand why:

a) turning one dial around until it is in the right position
b) then selecting the ISO with an extra dial
should be any faster or more "tactile" than to

a) just hold the iso button on top of the cam with the index finger and turning the "rear e-dial" in one move only... pls explain...
I think you are making wrong assumptions because you just dont know the ISO button on the old flagships, since you own a K-30...

Its OK if some think, that those wheels make sense, especially if they never read the manual of a K-7/K-5 or used another (DIGITAL) PENTAX flagship camera onwards from the K-7 era.
..
But from my point of view, it is a fact that we had the most easiest cleanest design on DSLRs when PENTAX introduced the K-7
and all the bodies afterwards up to the K-3 kept that and offered that beautiful uncluttered design.
Everything on those cameras made perfect sense... (K-7 | K-5 | K-5II | K-)
Despite selecting the focus point, you were able to make lightning fast adjustments to ANY of your settings, given you read your manual.

And despite some incy wincy details, like the AF-Button BigMackCam mentioned before or the lever(left instead of right) direction, I dared to note in some former post. - but those are things not worth mentionin...

but i read and heard from a lot of people by now, that those wheels dont really please them and they find em distracting...

Mostly (semi-)professional people who own a K-1 or already rented one... would give both wheels
(and maybe the first segment of their lefthand little-finger)

for having a thumbstick instead with which they could easily select the desired focus-point(/area). bet something on that.

And no offense here, but: People who praise that wheel-cluster-design the most, often seem to not even own or use a K-1.

- yes i used it for street, portrait, etc...
and even though i just hopped in and registered, i know the forum very well already, so it seems to me that some members would also praise the K-1 even if it had a colorchanging glowing ping-pong ball instead of an info display and 4 more wheels.

people have been arguing in here about that before.. i read that. what happened to them?
I guess kicked out in favor of some forum-behemoths... so i wont comment on this issue any further, no matter what you will answer, jatrax...sry.

that may be because you now define a PENTAX by the design of the overloaded K-1 what i would not suggest anybody to do...
just take a K-5II, a K-3, a GH-4, a GH-5 and an S1R picture and put them side a side...

Looking at the placement of the elements(mode dial and buttons) its straight lines, its grip.
does the S1R really look more like one of the Panasonic bodies to you?

I hardly doubt that. But hey, tastes differ from person to person...

But what I know, is that the K-1 design is far away from the usability of a K-5IIs and is missing a thumbstick.

And I am sorry, that PENTAX lost its ways and others picked it up...
I mean c'mon, be honest to yourself...
the moonlander display... useful only in 4-8% of all shooting situations.
the wheels... distracting AND redundant functionality...

the crippled shoulder display... it felt like a much better when switching off main-lcd on a K-5IIs or K-3 when the shoulder-display used to give me more information...

still choosing the AF-point via 4-way element.... whilst some have plead for a thumbstick long before the K-1 arrived!

I mean the K-1 as a camera is OK, but all this is more bearable then desirable...

But hey, what do I cry for, people anyway are not capable of reading manuals anymore it seems...

They even wonder why their main-screen goes black and cry in fear of havin a bad camera, instead of pressing the info button again
(they most certainly pressed accidently before a few times, whilst looking through the viewfinder, when they wanted to change the AF-POINT via that 4-way controller)

I mean really... on what planet is it actually practical or necessary... to:

1st: press a button above the 4-way controller(thats otherwise useless somehow...- who changes card schemes whilst shooting?)
2nd: choose the AF-area/point
3rd: again press that darn button above the 4way to get back original functionality of the 4way
(!!whilst other just press and move around a little thumbstick!!- this 4way plus button method is actually as impractical as can get.)

BUT:
having 2 more wheels to:
make settings that can be reached in a breeze via holding a button and turning an e-dial(that was always there at the reach of your thumb)
---> exposure correction... for instance... just hold that darn exp.corr.button on top and turn the rear e-dial...
why in gods name should it make sense to turn a wheel 2 times until it reached the desired position and then turn another wheel?
THE EXACT SAME IS IT with SETTING THE ISO...
Bracketing?HDR? -->top button of the 4way...

I know, that others already got burnt for asking for logic in PENTAX body design and coming back to the essential design guidelines of the K-5 series...
But i really feel we need to get back to the roots of our success instead of celebrating all the bells&whistles facade on the K-1...
again it is a good camera, but RTFM and 1st take up a K-5IIs... feel it... use it...
then....
take up a K-1 -- and realize what you feel when using it.
And I mean using it and not playing around with its wheels... or whirring it through the air holding it on its display with the moonlander out...i mean really using it.

The K-5 IMHO handles 100% better because there is nothing on it distractin you from taking photos and every button on its body makes sense exactly where it is... its nearly 100% perfectly designed.
despite the lever above the 4-way is pointing to the left instead of to the right, what would have been much better FMPOV.

admitted it also has no thumbstick... but at that time with that less AF-points... i didnt even care.

and reh... this is really no offense, but my honest oppinion that comes from using a K-1
may I ask...do you actually use or better: own a K-1 body? and for what do you use it?

At first I wasnt sure, but now:
I just saw a 360° View of the Panasonic S1...!?!§%§§!!!!
Now i need to mention ... we need a Panasonic S1 with the word PENTAX written where actually one can see LUMIX.

Can anybody explain to me, why this awesome camera looks more an evolution of a PENTAX Crop DSLR Flagship than one of the new Pentax DSLRs???

I would never have expected such a straight and awesome body design from Panasonic...
It really looks like the wet-hot dream of a hardcore Pentaxian(despite the fact that its mirrorless)
Did they take someones design who got fired by RICOH-Imaging because he didnt like the weird ideas on the K-1 and they thought his K-1 design was crap???

This is exactly what I would have expected... from the K-1.

Such a nice tactile design, without unnecessary elements... straight lines...
everything in place and without redundant functionality...
They even gave it a f.. thumbstick to change the AF-points(area)... !!

I hope RICOH Imaging stops playing stubborn now, and takes back what belongs to them.

Just take that Panasonic S1R camera-body design, slap in a really excellent perfoming crop-sensor, build a mirrobox around it, pop a K-mount on to it and call it the K-3II successor. PLS!
You can say what you want, but exactly this is the first camera body design that i am lookin at with real envy in my eyes... whilst holding my K-3... gosh it looks STRAIGHT!!!!!!!...
🤪🤪🤪

I know tar and feathers may be ready for me, by now ... but man its the TRUTH!!!

If PENTAX ever goes mirrorless, they should really think about joining forces with the other outsiders...(Sigma, Leica, Panasonic)

KP is not high end. features 5-axis SR and has a funny design, yes. But high end? .not a bit.
CoProcessor seems like a hoax to the most of us, that may be why many are leaving. Its like RICOH-Imaging insulting their users.

*I thought that was a bad move anyway to pussyfoot around like that, when it comes to investing in new-gears electronics... but hey, others knew better.
