yep... 1st class would be a CFExpress slot thats backwards compatible to XQD
not QXD... ;)

But i really wouldnt care about that. On a tool like the GRIII.

Sure, with a tiltnswivel display and 4K and whoknowswhatelsemorethanthat, it could also have been THE and i say THE tool for vloggers...
at this size.. :)
Would have impressed a lot of customers to go after it like hotcake... but it seems that RICOH just doesnt want to make cameras for

young consumers or EVERYBODY ...

Its for street-photography, and I am pretty sure, its image quality is hard to beat by any compact...
and it runs nearly without competition.
I take a good guess and say the quirkyness of the Zeiss ZX1(and i guess the pricetag zeiss will choose)...
will leave everything as is:
RICOH GR - the best street-photography tool without any competition.

But dont get me wrong, I also think, they should better gear up a bit.

Since one can see there can be competition coming up, when you would never expect it...
F.i.: i bet sony didnt really expect Panasonics move - and then this new fuji SR-stabilized 100mp mid format... with the same very professional mean&clean look that formerly was typical for PENTAX crop-flagships?WTF?

I would already be happy if they start to produce new spare parts for the GR1(whatever) and R1 film cameras again....
I have two broken Ricoh R1... and no one seems to be able to get his hands on spare parts!!!

if anybody in here knows where to buy spare parts for the RICOH R1 plz let me know... Its a real pitty because it was one of the smallest and I am pretty sure THE most slim 35mm film compact camera...

actually... WRONG. I found it one of the easiest cameras to deal with... and i can imagine shooting with such a camera without a VIEWFINDER must feel even more at home if you come from Smartphone photography and it even has snap focus...
So you dont have to worry about where you want to have your focus...

What i dont understand is the criticism on the missing EVF...
because a viewfinder ? not really necessary... because its a fixed focal length... your brains or a hotshoe OVF should do.
BTW... lol those viewfinders are on the market for a good while now... they are called GV-1 and GV-2 AFAIR... :()

What i think the camera misses the most, would be better video features ...

Add 4K with a tilt'n'swivel display to that handy little thingy and all the vloggers would buy the whole first production in a few weeks off the market...

I am convinced overall its a real good upgrade and 60p@FullHD IS a step up... but its a babystep compared to the fact that the new cameras from Panasonic are rumoured to bring 8K Video@24fps via firmware update in 2020...(Olympia 1st real Sports event that will get delivered in 8K ->> Japan )

I mean, a "pocketable" APS-C compact with 4k video and a 28mm euqiv. lens f:2.8 ... which vlogger would not want to have that???
And that is what RICOH-Imaging seems to be missing... the trends that would attract new users.

But there is no doubt, that it will be a real great performer and at ISO 800 and above it will deliver remarkably better results than a Sony RX100IV,V,VI...there is no question about that.

but nonetheless, i again want to note, that it really is(or could be) in direct competition to the kinds of RX100, FZ100

...and in terms of image quality, the RICOH GRIII will eat its competitors ALIVE...

but when it comes to the "whole package" point of view...

it may look a bit naked,

compared to the RX100 and FZ100(TZ101) which all boast, superfast burst shooting..., 4k Video and slow-motion video functions...

and if you say "wait ... but the image quality..." - man... i would say a non-sealed compact M43-body with a pancake lens comes very very close to the size of the GR...
and to its image quality...
take for instance.... the Panasonic GX800 with the !ZOOM! pseudo-pancake 12-32mm...
even a GX-9 incl. 12-32 is only 1cm larger in each dimension than a GRII with the fixed lens out in steady position...

all this is not meant to bash the GRIII before its born...

Its just sayin that if there is still time to "crowd in" 4k VIDEO+slow-motion (and maybe UHS-II) they really should do it...
(with those features a camera like that would feel so at home at skateparks and other urban sports courts... also)
Because its better to think bigger and be 2 steps ahead, instead of thinking its enough to step up just till "catch up", while all the other actually make 2 steps forward, when you think you would "catch up"...
(weather sealing on a GR will stay a dream for 2 more generations at least, i guess.)

I agree ~85%, but despite what is written somewhere about the new GRIII hotshoe being compatible to P-TTL flashes, i doubt that somehow, since I believe to know that all the other GRs have a custom hotshoe that differs to those on PENTAX DSLRs...
->And since that is so... I guess the O-GPS1 will have a hard time talking to the GRIII
(and built-in GPS is nothing energy savy and i really dont need it.)
nor would I need pixelshift but i can understand why some would render it a useful thing to have... but you are totally right with UHS-II and 4K-Video Having 4K video and good burst rates in a ..in such a handy little fella would make so much more sense for a street photography tool...

I write from the heart. Cant help it.

I know, some people may make use of those LEDs, but before their introduction on the K-1 and the slightly different implementation on the D850 ... I was off quite well using a headtorch with red foil/film on it...
And i still do, since neither my photobag nor my lenses have built in LEDs.

a)I dont think so... most websites already state that it will be priced very competitive to Sony also...

b)Also wrong in my oppinion....

PENTAX -in my eyes- was and still is a design directive... that got a bit hurt by the K-1, but not totally corrupted.
(Dont get me wrong, the first K-1 overall is a good camera and it is built very well, but the additional wheels... the weird LCD, all the LEDs... *phew* ...nicely said: hard to take. after nearly perfectly designed cameras like the K-5IIs and the 645Z for instance.)

I overall like how those cameras handle and feel, and the simplicity and "straight-aheadness" of their firmware/menus....

And looking at all that... RICOH and PENTAX fit together like bread and butter or chocolate and milk if you wish so.

But looking at the Panasonic S1 ... i would say... this (except being mirrorless)
is EXACTLY what would/should have grown out of K-5II and K-3 experience and incorporating technological advances ...

except its "contour-lines" of course... they are still very "panasonicy"...
but the button placement... one mode dial... just as less buttons as it makes sense...
and not only thos f... incorporated AI-learning in their Autofocus software intelligence... no,
i also bet some, that they got the idea of photographers who want to compose the pix themselves and so it will have a thumb-joystick for selecting where to focus... :)

I still believe we can get back there where we once where and leave the bells&whistles section and take the train back to usability land....
I sincerly hope pentax is not embarassed and brave enough to learn from others...
(before we get an additional exposure correction wheel also... god beware. )

I guess Panasonics S1 and S1R are aimed at everyone who wants to have fun when shooting with a FF camera...
And the only drawbacks i can see so far are:
1. Its not a PENTAX
2. It has not KA(2,3,4 or whatsoever number) mount...
3. Its not a DSLR and offers no Optical Viewfinder
4. Its not a PENTAX

:D - dont get me wrong... i certainly wont buy a pig in a poke... but if RICOH fails to deliver equally good gear on a long term...(2years or so)...
this looks like a ship to jump to.
And at least in Panasonicland it doesnt seem like a bad idea to have a multi dual card slot system... and so deliver a memory card compromise that should be pleasant to nearly everybody ...

No Viewfinder - No Deal.
... Thats my guideline for buying compact cameras and why I chose an RX100V(to ride along with my PENTAX DSLR gear)
until a used RX1R II becomes more affordable.

OK, I see they want to make a moveable LCD... but let's see if that makes it into the production... (The K-1 prototypes also had NFC.... and now... NO NFC in K-1)...

To me it seems like RICOH always thinks they can live off some hype...
see:
K-1(hyped for a reason) -> K-1II(lives off the hype of the former product and IMHO with its donkey-move-coprocessor it even ruined the IQ of the predecessor)
K-3(hyped for a reason) -> K-3II(lives off the hype of the former product)
GR(hyped for a reason) -> GRII(lives off the hype of the former product)-> GRIII(lives off the hype of the product t'was before former product)

But looking at their sales numbers per year ... they should have already get the idea that only REAL UPGRADES and major introductions will carry new users and more consumers to their products...
look at

2016(K-1)

2013-14(K-3 AND GR)

A tilt&swivel display in combo with 4k video-recording could have made it a desirable product for vloggers too...
...but keeping it at mere FHD(while THETA V and WG-M2 already offer 4k) doesnt seem very wise to me also...FHD at 60p sounds like poke-joke, lookin at others already introducing 4k at 60p or more.

Lets just hope they dont try to do that with an APS-C DSLR flagship successor...
...otherwise I'll jump ship, even though I have been holding on to PENTAX loyally for about 20 years. - If they dont step up now... i'am fed up!

of course finally introducing weather resistancy(sealings) in a high quality digital compact would compensate against its feature-upgrade-resistancy.
