What lenses do you use on your KP?

As previously posted, and shown in my signature, I have a bunch of legacy film era Pentax M lenses, all primes. And while I had the K50, I did try using a few of them.

But since selling the K50 after buying the KP in June this year, I have not tried any of them on my Pentax M primes - I just have so much difficulty with getting the focus right, esp on the two longer 135mm and the 200mm F4. It was less of a problem with the faster 85mm perhaps.

But basically I let the autofocus do all the work, and both the speed and the accuracy of the autofocus on the 55-300mm PLM are fantastic. And the 16-85mm zoom gets me as wide as I normally want. And the 100mm 2.8 WR macro tops it all off nicely for me, for the main subject groups I shoot (birds, bugs and insect Macros, Flowers).

The only likely additional lens might be the 1.4x teleconverter, mainly to pair with the 55-300mm PLM - although it might be interesting to try pairing it with the 100mm macro.

Thanks Vmax: needless to say my son and daughter-in-law are pretty proud of their new automobile. They changed down from 2-car family to a one car family to make the change, and reduce their petrol bill. The Merc is turbo-charged, and really pushes you back into your seat when the turbo charge kicks in. And the dashboard - well!!! And of course, auto self-parking, with the whole process showing on the in-dash LCD!!!!

But to get back on topic, I have only recently been taking out the 16-85 more frequently, and it really is a great lens.

Yes, the front of the 16-85mm is BIG - filter size is 72mm, compared to 58mm for the 55-300mm. I did not realise this when I finally bought my first kit of brand new digital camera and lens.

BUT -

I had done a fair bit of reading, and came to the conclusion that for both sharpness, and to cover a decent and overlapping focal range, I wanted the 55-300mm PLM, and the 16-85mm. And the 100mm 2.8 Macro for - well, obviously, close-ups and macros.

They - and my nice new KP - fit into my LowePro backpack. I am 75 yrs old, and have wandered around with this kit for up to 3-5 hrs at a stretch, and I am no incredible hulk - quite the opposite. I consider myself a "delicate little runt".

If I had been forced to choose only two lenses, even now, in hindsight and with experience of them all, I would keep the 55-300mm, and the 16-85mm, which are both capable of decent close-ups, macros.

I recently took a few shots of my son and daughter-in-law's new Merc with the 16-85mm, with and without them in the shot. They, and I, were very pleased with the results. Also pleased with some landscapes shots taken with the 16-85mm. It's focal range gives a good range of framing choices in landscape photography.

The second shot is no landscape photography competition winner, but shows the 16-85mm at 16mm. The car shot was taken at 35mm

Just bought the kp 3 weeks ago.

Bought the 100mm Macro 3 weeks before that - for use on my 2nd hand K50

Bought the 16-85mm and the 55-300mm PLM with the the KP - the 55-300 just about lives on the camera. But sunny weather is back (after almost 2 full weeks of overcast and/or rainy days), so gotta get off my butt, get to some local nature reserve or botanical gardens, and give the camera and all 3 new lenses a workout.

Love having brand new modern AF lenses, after virtually making do with some old legacy Pentax M series film lenses on the K50.
