No mistake, if you've got a D700 there, that's a nice camera: my Nikonian friend is very happy with it, especially as a guy who likes wide-angle and has discovered he can really trim down his lens kit with that. (We're spoiled by Pentax small primes, his kit got huge.) Apparently he just gave up VR and practically made back what he spent on DX lenses to upgrade. For a Nikonian with the means, it may really make sense.
My full-frame is *film,* and knowing what I need, and my own style, there's nothing deal-breaking about crop format with the lenses available. (Actually, it provides certain advantages there,, Just need the best and most precise VF they can put in the right body. :)
Since you get to start learning with full-frame digital, which most don't, pay attention to your point of focus. Observe. :)
