I think somewhere way back on the Film board there's a little guide to making your own. I forget who posted it. I can't remember if they need a little keyhole-slotted piece or if it's just a couple of screws but I think once upon a time Pentax would sell you a kit with a blank grip you could sculpt to whatever shape you want.

Yeah, they do seem worth the extra money, not that I had that much anyway, but in this case the need really is for a more pocket-sized camera with a finder I can use in the bright, rather than 'Best pseudo-rangefinder I can get' anyway, so if I think of this as much more capable than many pocket camera options rather than like a lesser x100, I don't feel deprived. :)

Also I did a bit of casual shooting last night at the pub: I think I'll pretty much get along with this little guy just fine. The OVF with the information overlay is really working for my eyesight issues.

Yeah, I can tell the bigger sensor would be a lot nicer for the often-low-lightey shooting I like to do, but something like the x100 series is probably a bit over the line as far as stretching the 'pocket camera I can work with' parameter goes. Also I think they still cost more than I could get like a K-5II or something for and just do the one-lens-carry option if I have to sling something on a strap all the time anyway. :) I do think the bigger ones are just that cool, though.

And, well, maybe I'll see if people still seem so crabby about getting real cameras pointed at them as they used to around here. Which is silly, cause there's like two cameras on every damn smartphone and all these days. This will definitely work much better for me than borrowed smartphone cameras, which are just embarrassing by the time I try to see the screens and get them to focus where I want and trigger at a good time and all those little things you get with, say, a real shutter release and all. :)

OK, Eddie, apart from not getting much photo done, between eyes and a period of time without a reliable computer to do photo with, and a lot more physically to do, which is generally good, if also often in the way of slinging cameras. (But that's why I got the little metal compact and optical finder and all. :) ) I've been a bit lurkey and sometimes chatting on car threads. But busier is happier for me than being kinda stuck in a chair most of the day. :)

Hey! Maybe nothing incredibly special, but I'm happy with having scraped up for a used Fuji X20 for my pocket, (well, any large pockets, but I wear a lot of those.)

I'm hoping to really start shooting again after a period of a lot of back pain and eyesight/migraine trouble really blunting my enthusiasm, (Also the fact that most of the rest of what I do can't really be done slinging a full-sized camera kit, but I'm kinda hoping to also use this to get myself back into film. ) I'm already loving the optical finder: it shows information and focus targeting, and some idea of framing, but works for me even if I'm too dayblind to read one of those darn screens or have been wearing my reading glasses too much.

Even got a black one, which doesn't really matter much, but when I was a young photog gal, having a lot of 'chrome' bodies had annoying status implications I coulda done without, even if they're seen as kinda special and old-school now. :) Also got the OEM slotted lens hood: I'm surprised the slots aren't anywhere near as helpfully-shaped as they should be, but I may consider putting it on the drill press if I can set up a jig and bit I can be confident about. :)

Anyway, I should be popping up on the compact cameras board again, soon. Especially cause I didn't get a manual. :)

I think the 'n' is actually nicer in some way, though I can't recall how. (Maybe a stopdown lever or something.) Camera database here?

Oh, also I'll have a bit of show&tell accrued from some inactive times. SHould post soon. :)

Well, adapting an FD lens to almost anything short of a mirrorless digital takes an optically-corrected adapter that just tends to compromise too much to be worth it. That 50 1.8 is definitely in the not-worthwhile category: it's just not that nice and all kinds of cheap 50's are out there that fit up much better. The colours are good but you lose *that* with an optical adapter too.

There's a reason there are a lot of old Canon FD shooters here as Pentaxians: when Canon changed their lens mount they basically left behind the old school: we just never went autofocus and kept on using the old stuff all these years. Pentax happened to be the most appealing to that mindset when digital became almost mandatory. :) Part of why I went Pentax was so I could share lenses with a film body, but I end up carrying around my K20d and an F-1N anyway. :)

They did, for a while sell an FD-EOS adapter but that was mostly as a stopgap for any pros who were invested in big tele lenses. Even then they weren't cheap and they're very rare now. Aftermarket ones are going to still cost you money and you'll lose more optical quality than you'd gain. You can put other lenses on an EOS a lot easier, (like Pentax screwmount.)

Ricoh lenses will be compatible with either K-mount or Pentax screwmount, generally, That one may be of a vintage where it has the dreaded 'Ricoh pin,' though, which is something that Ricoh added for their version of auto exposure: it unfortunately coincides with some of the ports in a newer Pentax/digital Pentax body, so it will likely get stuck unless you remove that pin. (If you dismount the lens from the Ricoh and get a photo of the lens mount, we can tell you if that pin is there. I don't know if that lens is anything to go to trouble over, either, mind you. Just don't mount it on a digital till we see. :) )

As for that FD lens and the AV-1, just keep em together: the AV-1 probably still works (even if it makes a squeaky noise: those would want service but it won't affect images) and it's a little package you can hand somebody who wants to try film. (Or: Ebay it. They aren't very valuable but they aren't too common, either: Canon was never big on aperture-priority automation, so while the demand is not big, someone would probably be glad to pay you enough that you could get a very nice 50mm for whichever digital you like. (I understand the EOS 50/1.8 is actually a pretty nice lens: in FD you'd want the 1.4 or 1.2. )

Those little Sigmas are actually quite nice lenses, so you know. Actually used to sell quite a few when I worked in photo retail. (I remember the Canon FD version, which system I was shooting at the time, decided to make a fake 'New FD' mount which was just a breech mount with an extra lock button (Entailing extra fussiness in lens changing and more parts to go wrong) on it that had no reason to exist, so I didn't do one, myself, (I wanted a 24 anyway) but very good optics. For the price anyway. :)

Heehee. Actually with kids, I always used to just act silly, usually don't want them *too* interested in the camera itself, (though a favorite kid lens for my old Canons (big ol 35-105) is pretty interesting to toddlers just cause the big front element looks so neat. The kids don't know the funny lady's doing a Columbo impression, but the parents usually do, and if the parents are laughing, the kids pick up on that.

You know, Mags, it's kind of nice that you're around to represent for people having fun with all the colorful stuff. I like things to look nice, too, but I'm a pretty dull bird about it. :)

Well, I'm sure someone around here might be willing to help you out with that buyer's remorse there. ;)

(That one actually looks like it's in really nice shape, not that I personally mind seeing a little brassing.)

Ah, the 6x7, my actual claim to being a longtime Pentaxian. Those are like Muses, very mean to you in practice, but you can't argue with the results. :)

MIght be one like I ended up with from some order or other, really flattens out the light from my little Metz, maybe excessively for some purposes, but it's so small I generally just leave it on there when I'm carrying a flash, and it definitely knocks down most of the effects I don't like about flash photography to begin with. (Normally I like to use as little flash in the mix as possible, with this thing the light tends to look really flat rather than harsh and artificial, but it suits well enough. (It might also knock your range and power down a good bit, compared to a nicer one, but this isn't often an issue for me. :) )

Since I don't see any heavy lenses on your list there, I like the Lowepro Speedster: they're still out there new, last I saw, and often going ridiculously- cheap. They aren't the padded sort of strap, but I use em on just about everything that never gets real heavy. :)

Ooh, that's just the thing. Various window places ought to be able to cut you a piece of appropriate plexi type material, if nothing else is in evidence.

Also statistically-more noodly. Frankly, if anyone had bred me to be that noodly, I might have an attitude, too. :)

Rotties have a fearsome reputation, and they *could* kick your arse, but they really are generally good guardians, and are usually on the side of the pure of heart. :)

As for word processing programs, those only got worse and more expensive the bigger they made computers.

I miss Wordstar. Could run off a floopy and was all you could ever need.

Nowadays, you could spend two grand and they *still* want an extra four hundred to approximate a typewriter. :)

Hrm. Not familiar with that lens, but I suggest storing it on its side to keep any drippiness of oil from ending up on the elements, (why make extra work. ) It'll need cleaning, pretty much, not sure what the service costsvs value of the lens ratio may be...
