Nice result from your 24-50! The colors and clarity are excellent.
The best "rule of thumb" is to set SR at the minimum focal length of a zoom (24mm in your case). It's better for the SR to under-compensate rather than to over-compensate (which would cause blurring). For very critical shooting at a known focal length, of course set it exactly at that focal length (or the next setting lower).

My daughter had a K-50 with a sometimes-troublesome aperture block, so she gave it to me. She uses a K-3 now, and has a K200D for backup. I was testing the K-50, so I put an old Pentax-A 50mm f2 on it as a body cap, and was testing it (no problems so far), shooting in B/W .jpg, and found that the -A50/2 is not so bad! This bokeh is busy, but interesting - shot wide open at f2.0.
