Thankfully, my dealextreme grip is serving me well since I got in on March 2011. THe plastic is now super shiny and the marking are all gone but it is still going strong.

Could be the battery. I use 2xoriginals and one OEM on my K7+Grip and so far have no issues.

I got my 3rd party grip a year ago in March 2010 and until today, it still sits on the K7 and works great. Although some paint has come off the ISO and +/- buttons, it still works. Got mine from DealExtreme and it costs about USD$80.00 at that time. i actually got it from another forumer in Clubsnap SG.
It is the type 2 grip that looks like the original

The DX may be crap but my Dealextreme grip is good to go. I have used it on my K7 for the past month and there is nothing wrong with my copy. Your DX version may have been a faulty one though. That does not mean that all 3rd party stuff is crap.
Paid USD$55.00 for it and have no issues with it since . . .
Out of curiosity, but do you use brands like Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, and Cosina? These are good 3rd party lens manufacturers and their glass is superb. Did you know that Cosina manufactures for big brands in the industry too?
