Thanks, my lens is a Pentax A*600mm F:5.6 and not 4. But I need to extend my DoF, so I shoot at F:11 or 13 for birds. This forces me to reduce speed ( on non moving birds) and increase ISO ( I limit my K5 to Iso 8,000) to have a good shot.
I use Topaz to clean the noise after.

Thanks for your comments,
I use CS5, Camera RAW and Topaz to post process my photos. I first use Camera Raw to adjust exposition, sharpness and a little denoise. Then in CS5 I use the "quick selection tool" to isolate the bird and do a inverse selection, do an improve contour and then use Denoise from Topaz (light or Moderate Raw denoise) on everything but the bird. Usually works well.

Thanks to Tom and you, I think it is the K5 that is so good at high ISO, I can afford to shoot at F11 or F13 ( to broaden my DoF) because i know high ISO will turn out OK. Thanks.

First try with a Pentax 1.4XL TC giving me 840mm, quite sharp for seeing the feather details. Will have to back up from the birds....

Second day of testing the Pentax A*600mm, it is much better as I did the photos at F13 instead of F 6 yesterday, the DoF is much improved. I will love this lens. Some of todays examples.

Just got my A*600mm and I think it will be a charm to work with it. I will need to get adjusted to the short DOF and to watch out for not cutting the body of the birds. It a heavy lens to my standards and need a QR plate of 169mm to get it balanced on my Sidekick arm and tripod head. Will continue to practice...

Thanks Lee, the K5 and the DA*300mm realy helped in getting those shots. I have just bought a A*600mm which I hope will help me get nicer pictures next trip to Florida. The roseate spoonbill was photographed at Sanibel Island and the Great Egret at Wakodahatchee in Boynton Beach. Thanks for your kind words.
