This is just wild speculation, but check the properties of your original image. Straight from the camera, the pixel dimensions should be 4288x2848. If not, some kind of cropping operation has happened, maybe by mistake.
I tended to get as close as possible to the frame edge with my *ist DS, because with only 6Mp, I didn't want to lose any pixels. But with a higher pixel count and the 100% viewfinder in a K-7, this is sometimes a bad habit. I have plenty of pixels but no margin for slight crop adjustments or the more common larger frame sizes.
