Menu > Custom Settings > Using Aperture Ring > Select "Permitted"
Menu > Custom Settings > FI (Focus Indication) with S Lens > Select "Availiable"
You must shoot in Manual mode or otherwise your camera will assume that your lens is wide open.
In manual mode...
1. turn the aperture ring to desired postion
2. press "AE-L" (the camera stops the lens down for a split second and meters shutter speed)
3. After step 2, proceed to pressing the shutter button.
4. If there is a change scene or light levels, go back to step 2.
