Some Old Guy K1 Questions?

:lol: Well, rest assured it was not attempted murder! In particular with the Bigma mounted on it at the time of the crash! That would only make sense if I was going for the K1 and 150-450 all at once......I'm a lot craftier than that! You don't want to push too hard and fast, and end up with nothing.:(

The 150-450 can come later when Mrs Rupert starts asking why a "Pro" like me with a new Pentax Pro camera still gets lousy shots?.......got an answer ready! Bet you can guess it!

Best Regards!:)

Yep, and normally I'd be pleased with that logic...but not with my K5IIs! I truly love it, the K1 had better be as good!:D

I chanced remounting the Bigma this morning, had to see if it still works, been really worrying me.:(

The camera works in MF only and with no aperture control, but other functions like ISO, speed and such seem OK.

Have to shoot wide open 6.3, but that is not bad on the Bigma anyhow. This can hold me until the K1 arrives and the K5IIs goes to the shop for repair. :D

The Bigma appears to be undamaged, which takes a load off my mind! :)

Regards! :) ...and don't lose confidence in me.....I'll be working a scam on Mrs Rupert again in the future......you can count on it! I just didn't do it this time!:D

Hey guys....I admit to some dirty tricks from time to time with Mrs Rupert,:( but trust me, there is no way I would ever do any harm to my K5IIs for any reason. I might do some tricky stuff to get a K1, and had several plans, but harming myK5IIs was never one of them!

I think what it needs is some internal surgery. :(We will find out once I get the K1.

Regards!:) ...and I am ashamed a couple of you thought so lowly of me! It's unimaginable you would suspect me of such a thing!

Thanks so much for the offer Paul:)....I think I'm gonna shoot mostly Toy Cameras for a few weeks....you know I do love them!:D Knowing the K1 is in the near future will keep me satisfied, but I will miss shooting the doves and squirrels......Perhaps the K1 will entice me to broaden my shooting subjects a little? If I had my little studio it would be perfect! Squirrels out...Girls in!

Puppies and pretty girls....Yep, the K1 could do that nicely! :D

Wooo! That hurts! ...That is some nice shooting, at least you still have a fine long lens.....I'd rollover dead with no long lens!

I agree, a K3II would not benefit me much over a K3.

Read my new post here...I have made a decision I think I can live with. :D

Thanks guys, your comments are all well appreciated!:)

I so appreciate your generosity,:) but I will wait a few days and make a decision, then order ....something?

She's a jewel, I beat her up sometimes in jest, but in reality she has been 50 years of solid gold.:D Last night when she gave me the little lamb....she said, you know that if you want something ....you've got it. And she has a record of proving that to be true.

Thank you so much Jim,:) you are a true friend too! I will be ordering something? soon. I'll give it a few days to think over my options and then make the call. Meanwhile...I have those Toy Cameras. Of course, they are too short to shoot birds and squirrels.....which may indeed be a good thing!

I respect your expertise very much Norm....you are a straight shooter. Your advice will weigh heavily on my decision.:) While I am down....maybe you can do some extra shooting/posting of my favorite subjects.......you do know what that might be...right?

Again, I want to thank all my friends here for the concern, advice, and sympathy. I know you guys really feel the pain, it could be anyone and though it is "only" a camera you guys know that it is much more, it is apart of our lives. It is joy, it is happiness, it is comfort, it is "family". I also appreciate that Mrs Rupert understands this and is so supportive....last night when I mentioned the price differences of the options, she reminded me that she fully financed my little downtown studio I had for a year (such fun!) and my Jeep...and my Audi TT....and so much more. With a Mrs Rupert at my side and friends like I have here, it is hard not to have a big smile this morning in spite of my loss.:)

Best Regards!:):)

I will check that out! Thanks!:)

That sounds reasonable and logical......Sometimes I am reasonable and logical.....sometimes not...we'll see?

Best Regards! & Thanks!:):)

It sounds easier than it is.....the options are all good. Surprisingly, Mrs Rupert says go with the FF and be done with it for a long time.

I think I am going to wait at least until the Big Dog and a few others get the K1 and give me their take on it. I have those Toy Cameras meanwhile, and I really need to use them more anyhow. I just want to get it right for my particular shooting needs. I feel confident the K1 is going to be a real winner, but some samples of the type of shots I take will ease my mind about the function of a FF camera in my shooting style.

That's a really fine shot! Maybe the K3 is what I need? More pixels, better cropping.....it might satisfy all my needs......damn!..tough decisions are harder when you are in distress. In a few days my head will be more clear!

Regards!:)...you guys are very supportive, isn't this a great place!:D

Not bad thinking.....some would call it "Big Brain Thinking"...but I won't say who! Truly, those are very good and reasonable thoughts! Thanks!:D

Yep, look for me more in the Toy Camera thread!:) Thanks for your sympathy...you too Jim.....I'm pretty down tonight, but I will survive it!:D

You know, I headed for the sofa only minutes after starting the post, and seconds later came the crash....it is spooky!:hmm:

Yes, tough decisions....I will sleep on it and not act in too much haste. It's not the money as much as wanting to get he right camera for the long haul.

Mrs Rupert...bless her heart..she knew my distress and came in from shopping with a sympathy cuddle to ease my pain.:)

Another reminder that there are more things to be thankful for than not.....:D

Thank you guys for the sympathy, I do feel sick inside:( ...I truly loved this camera, have since day one. I never intended to get rid of it no matter what I get new. I guess there are worse things, no doubt, but right this minute it is devastating.

Regards:)

I appreciate all the responses, they are helpful, but shortly after this post I decided to stretch out on the sofa in my home office for a little nap. I keep the K5IIs+Bigma mounted on a shelf and as I stretched out I put a crutch up to the shelf to prop up my feet.

I knocked the camera and mounted lens off on the floor and the Bigma pulled the mounting flange completely out of the camera. It took me almost an hour to get the flange off of the Bigma. I think the Bigma is OK, nothing broke, but the camera is toast.:(

Makes me sick.....I use this camera every day here in the Woods of Otis and will be lost without it. Now the decision is going to be even harder given the advice received here. Mrs Rupert, seeing my distress was sympathetic and said I could get anything I want.....and I swear this was a total accident. I would never put my camera or Bigma in intentional danger.

The K3 is priced nicely now.....but that K1 is still alluring to me. I'll give it a few days and make a decision. Right now I just feel nauseated and as broken as my camera. :(

At my age, the K1 might be all I ever needed from here on out.....but I would like to see some real life users here with it before ordering. Then again, weeks with no camera except the little Fuji X10/X20 is a tough thought.:(

I was too careless, but I have had it sitting there for years with different cameras and the Bigmas without incident, I never thought of an accident like this.

Best Regards:) & thanks to all.

I am not very good at camera technology, only the simple stuff, am just a pure amateur and do not aspire to be much more, just to enjoy all possible in my personal shooting experiences.

I currently shoot with the K5IIs and find it the best Pentax I have ever owned, absolutely satisfied. Most of my current shooting is of birds, squirrels, and other wildlife.....not much interested in BIF, just stills.

My interest is in the K1 and the Pentax 150-450, which along with my current Bigma 50-500 would comprise most of my usage.

Now the questions.

Beyond the known advantages/disadvantages what will I gain?

I am thinking that if I use the crop factor on the K1 I will still have the long range ability of my K5IIs, just not the bigger files of the K1? Would this result in any improvement in noise and would I still get an advantage in that area over my current camera even shooting int he crop mode?

The better SR is also very appealing to me, so I consider that another plus. If you have more, I could use them to convince Mrs Rupert that such an expense is justified.....and do it legitimately instead of stealing from her brokerage accounts....been there done that and spent a few nights in my shop for it. It's heated in the winter...but summer is coming and I want to try to go legit because the shop has no air conditioning.

Other than the nonsense,:( I am serious about my questions. If you can offer your thoughts I will appreciate it.Thanks!:D

Regards!:)
