Canon officially says the trigger voltage limit of the hotshoe on their cameras is 6 volts, the trigger voltage of a Vivitar 5200 has been measured at over 9 volts. It might work fine if they underrate their camera's flash circuits or if the limit really is 6 volts you risk damaging the camera.
