This is what will make it the ultimate lens adapter camera, a good niche that Sony already has capitalized on as you well know. Only Fuji and M43 really compete with them here, and this should give them a leg up.

I am less convinced it will improve on existing FF options as far as AF lenses go, at least at first. Like the previous NEX cameras I think this will take some time to fill their lens lineup.

Interesting. Cheaper than I thought. Even if the cameras are terrible in all other ways these will be very popular with the premium lens converter crowd.

Nail in the coffin for Pentax full frame?

I look at it the other way, I'd say it pressures them to release one even more. Either that or totally commit to APS-C and show us something we haven't seen.

It could peel off some Pentax users, not sure how many, but definitely some. But I am just going to ballpark guess the price of these rumored Sony cameras: $2,000 for the "cheap" 24 mp model and $3,000 or so for the 36 mp model. If I'm right, that's a lot of money to pay for a camera that can't autofocus my FA Limiteds. I would also expect a FF Pentax to benefit from the technology being put into the K-3, plus it would likely feature a nice OVF and fit the form factor of the camera better.

Now if Pentax doesn't come out with FF next year, I could see picking one of these up as a way to guarantee that I can use my K-mount lenses into the future, and then use the Sony E-Mount FF primarily with the Zeiss lenses that are made for it. But I'd still likely keep all my Pentax cameras to allow the autofocus option for my Pentax lenses as well.

I think the company these cameras really should worry is Leica. While $3,000 looks like a lot compared to a K-5II, it looks like peanuts compared to a Leica M240, which can't autofocus anyway. This could finally be the Bessa or Ikon cost range for digital M-mount lens users.
