Back on this topic. When the 50mm is coming this fiscal year, ending march 31th 2018, then the 85mm probably is still more then one year away. We might as well close the thread and open a new one when a mock-up is presented at next cp+.

Someone asked in this thread about this. Well with Tamron there comes lenses, so the idea is not that off.

Well most are asking for this or that product or feature. Key question is how to make a future that is profitable. In a shrinking market there is money to save by not doing to many things the same over and over again.

Gave this another thought. Actually it wouldn't be a mad idea if Tamron would buy Pentax K-mount.
- you buy products and design of lenses and camera's of them.
- The production facility of K-mount camera's in Phillipines. Trim the facility down, since no 645 and a smaller production.
- Production tools for lenses, but not the Vietnam plant, since those lenses will be made in their own plant. Maybe a few key people involved in the production.
- In R&D you take those involved in camera design. Not the once for lenses, or maybe a few.
- You don't take the sales departement, since you have it yourself, or maybe just a few people.
So you only take half of Ricoh-Imaging and still have a camera line with K-70, KP, K-3ii and K-1. A full line of lenses that can be completed with some own Tamron lenses made for Kaf4. That can make a healthy profit.

Well there are two roads towards that.
- Ricoh buy's Tamron. Not very likely for Ricoh to invest in the camera system in that way now.
- Tamron buy's Pentax. That is also a very hard nut to crack. Tamron isn't a real huge company, but much bigger then Ricoh-Imaging. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamron. So this would only mean K-mount and would be the end for all point&shoot camera and for 645 to make it even an option. Tamron has no relation in 645 at the moment, so investing in it would not make much sense.
Not impossible, but also not very likely.

When you want to attract new customers that don't have any current Pentax gear then you need to deliver. With the K-1 there is a nice line of lenses in shops now. It is missing some things and it isn't the biggest spread in lens choice for a fullframe dslr. So these teaser about development of new lenses maybe get Pentaxians excited......but for outsiders this is not so impressive. This just means, go on and walk by, nothing to buy over here.

This 85mm lens is for summer 2018, so don't get to excited. That means if Ricoh is still in the camera business by that time.
