This is changing very fast. Canon is the big shot in those numbers and now has trouble of moving those cheap dslr kits with one or two lenses. Six months from now the shift towards mirrorless will be made overhere also.

Well don't expect much development for aps-c lenses in the DA series for 2019. It is fullframe for most development.

When the lens is sharp (hi quality), you can simply make sharp images on k-5/k-5ii and the difference with k-5iis isn't that big.

Well Pentax is still not at the level of the 2007 Canon 1D Mark III with af. So there is no rush needed.

If you put the K-5 on energy saving with a good battery and don't chimp to much that can be done. I think the most I got was on a tournament where I made Black and White jpg images, 3 star quality. That came up total of 2000 images. Didn't had to do any postprocessing, just deleting half of the images and the rest just transferred.

K-3 with no grip gives 1000+ images on a long sports event. Without any problem and using af-c all the time.

Her job is to sell what is on the table. Her job is not to tell people to not buy anything, but instead to wait for some unknown product maybe coming in the future. She could take a lesson in sales I think. ---------- Post added 28-10-18 at 09:26 ----------
What is your take on the time frame of this "not to far distance future"? Because that would give us the rest to see this out on what is coming and what is not.

Well in most company's marketing doesn't run production or r&d. They don't make decision on what goes on and what will be on hold. Their task is to market what is coming true...

But it is not coming from an important Ricoh-Imaging rep....... That makes it wishfull, but does not mean that "soon" is really "that soon".

In the financial report that was published today there was a reference to probably the K-3ii. Sales decreased (due to limited lineup) and profit increased. Well one year ago the K-3ii was still part of the line-up, but then profit was lower. So I think Ricoh is very happy with this reduced lineup.
I think they want to see if this smaller lineup keeps rolling in profit, instead of expenditures the line-up and see profit going down again.

Maybe they pull a sequal like with the WG-60 and bring a K-3iii with accelerator and leave the rest of the camera like the K-3ii was.

Well just look into this test on the aps-h canon 1D Mark III. This is from 2009. In the download you can see images made of runners coming towards you. Nothing like the bike test of dpr. Pentax is not even close to this performance of a very old camera. Ofcourse you need a lens that can work with you on this speed. Rob Galbraith DPI: May 29, 2009 update |

The number of people waiting to use their old lenses is decreasing. Those lenses went to others over the years to use on Sony A7 or so and now are somewhere in a cupboard. It doesn't make the splash it would have in 2010.

I think it would have been 8 - 10 years ago, but not in 2019.

So an uncrippeled K-mount camera would be the perfect anniversary present. 24 megapixel. To bad the Df wasn't a sales succes.....and so would be the K-mount counterpart.

I think most weight loss can be achieved by making a new electric system inside of the camera. Pentax still uses old electronics in the way of wires and others things. Updating that would trim down the space needed and the weight it brings.

No no no.....the average dslr is 75 % of the cost of the average mirrorless. .......
Actually dslr is for people who can't afford a propper mirrorless these days. You know people who get stared at because they are so pore. ...
