To all of you people using the FA Limited's ... if you were to use flash (AF540FGZ) with a FA 31 Ltd, wide open ...:

1. Indoors: what settings would you chose for the camera (K7 or K5) and flash.
2. outdoors for fill in: same question.

Just curious to find out if you would use the flash differently than with, let's say, a "non-FA" lens.

This may sound like a stupid question but since I am currently searching all over for "tricks" for flash photography, I dared asking here too.

Thanks!
Yes, there should be no such thing as IQ differences from what I read.

No pictures to post but a couple of questions:

I read, from other posts, that the Made in japan FA Limited's are better (:hmm:) than those Made in Vietnam ???
I own the 43 and 31 Ltd's (Silver both) and I can't really see how this could be.

Can anyone comment on this?

Cheers.

Thanks, Bart.
The way I look at it is that the 31mm would be like a 46mm on an APS-C camera, just like my K20D/K7, and will certainly work out very well for an "all-around lens".
If Pentax ever produce a FF DSLR, at least this would also work very well as a wide angle lens, as you mention above.
I was wondering whether I made a good choice in starting to acquire a couple of FA Ltd's; to be frank, this has been a "LBA attack", and a very expensive one at that. But then, I used the 43Ltd inside and was pleased (not overwhelmed) with the results for inside shots.
Maybe it was because the contrast on faces was way too harsh, something which I wasn't expecting. I have to check the camera's contrast settings ... I assume this would have been one of the problems.

I do have the FA50/1.4 and find it good, not excellent, but a good lens. I guess this 43Ltd will likely take over; I still have to get out there and test/try it for street stuff and other things. I am quite certain that I will like it though.
Inside shots seem to come out rather well.
For the 77Ltd, since I already own an 85/1.4, I just might wait and see what the future holds. I am quite pleased with this 85/1.4, albeit manual-focus.
Thanks for sharing.

Gees! Here I thought this was stuck on the lens, so I didn't try to dislodge it, so to speak, for fear of breaking something.
Anyway, nice to know that it can be removed.
Thanks for the tip!

Thanks Winnie.
Glad to see that this 43mm can be used as an all-around lens. I took some pics of "faces" with the 43mm this past weekend at my son's and it seems that it could well become one favorite of minde.
However, the contrast was a bit harsh and I just realized that I should have decreased it right from within the camera settings (K20D). That made the faces rather blotchy.
I have yet to try it outside ... that should be interesting.
Cheers.

Now that I have been trough all of the photos posted here, all taken with FA Ltd's, I was wondering:

What "typical" views would one take "specifically" with the 43mm and 31mm Ltd's?

This may seem like an odd question, however, it would be nice to know what people here bought these Ltd's "specifically" for.

Forgot to ask you people here: what's the score with the hood on the 43 Ltd ... can it be removed at all. Mine came in with the hood already on, so I'm wondering if that is a fixed hood or what.
Any reply appreciated!

Got myself in trouble: bought a 43Ltd a while back and now waiting for a 31mmLtd to come in next week.
You guys picked my brains and wallet :hmm: ... some pics to follow up soon.
I did mention that my LBA would done with after getting some Ltd's but it sure poked a whole in the budget. My fault ... my fault only! :o

Thanks for the replies regarding protective filters on the FA Limited's.
I had a faint idea that those who own them would not use fliters .... but I asked.
Thanks again.

Do owners of FA Limited's use any osrt of protective filter(s) on their lenses?
If yes, does it affect the IQ of the images and what type/brand of filters are you using.
Interested to know because I am considering the limited's.

Great photos in this thread!
Looking at results with the 31 vs. the 43 .... I wonder which would suit best for "general portraiture", in a "not-so-close" closeup situation.
I have a Zeiss 85/1.4, so that covers this focal.
Sometimes I wished I could get a tad closer, without causing face distortion, and be able to get shoulders/face as well in some situations.
Would be 43mm cover that? or would the 31 be the best? Or, would one of the DA Limited's fit the bill?
Which of the two has, according to users here, the "best" Bokeh?
I do also have one great little FA50mm f1.4 ... which I don't use often enough.
Curious ...
