thanks, my brutha. I made a list of all the user error and unexpected technical issues as a post mortem review. In all, I was disappointed with my images, but ever so thankful the sky opened up at 90-sec before totality, and there were 6 minutes of unobstructed view.
My corona shot is garbage up close and there are no other frames to work from, so it's a "looks good from afar" situation.

I'm incorporating new astro stacking software, Deep SkyStacker and StarnetGUI star remover; this is a composite I created while practicing with the tools. The foreground was captured in 2020 and the star set from last weekend.

re: mountain air, YES, so nice to get deep into the Sierras for that pine sap and campfire aroma on a chilly night.

Got out there to kick off milky way 2023 season, driving as far east into the Sierras as the closed mountain pass roads would permit. Made it to Pinecrest Lake for a single shot then right back home.
