You might want to look at the Panny 12-35/2.8. It's probably about 1/2lb lighter but is more plasticky than the 12-40. The 12-40 works well w/ my GH4 but is way to front heavy w/ a GX1 which is slightly lighter than your GX7.

The Oly 12-40 has a nice metal build quality that you don't see much nowadays...reminds me of Ltds...

Any "leaf shutter" m4/3 body?
I looked for a while w/o luck. Just wanted to make sure I didn't miss one in my search.

Bugs me that I can't control ambient that well when doing strobed photos w/ my GX1 w/ the 1/160s shutter :-(

I'd rank the high ISO performance slightly better than my K20D.
If you want closer to K-5 performance, look at the Oly EPL5, but the body is twice as much as the GX1 :(

Unless that's been processed, I wouldn't be too happy with it. It looks slightly washed out. Sort of like the comparisons I've seen of the 20/1.7 and the 25/1.4. The 25 should do a lot better than that and have a lot more contrast/color pop.

And it looks like I bought the wrong m4/3'rds body to try. Reading comparison reviews, the E-PL5 has a *much* better sensor for high ISO
Panasonic apparently only put their comparable to OM-D sensor into the GH3. The E-PL5 and OM-D share the same sensor which can do ISO3200 w/ minimal noise :(

ok..I got curious enough to try 4/3rds. Bought an old Panny GX1 w/ the 14-42X compact zoom to compare w/ my LX5.
I don't get it so far...the LX5 has a faster lens and image stabilization so that gets back the extra stop of performance from the bigger sensor on the GX1 which doesn't have IS/SR. The new LX7 is one stop better than the LX5. It won't flash sync beyond 1/160 AFAIK, so you can't control ambient by using 1/700-1/1000 flash sync like I can w/ the LX5.
