At 1:1 the distance between the subject and the sensor (a.k.a. the focusing distance) is equal to four times the focal length. Hence the focal length of the Irix Dragonfly at 1:1 is equal to 350 ÷ 4 = 87.5mm.
The focal length of the smc Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro WR at 1:1 is equal to 303 ÷ 4 = 75.8mm.
That of the smc Pentax-FA★ 200mm f/4 Macro ED [IF] was equal to 510 ÷ 4 = 127.5mm.

There is no such thing as (normalised) WR rating. WR, AW, dustproof, drip-proof are marketing words. Only the IP Code, International Protection Marking, IEC standard 60529, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and its European equivalent the EN 60529 standard are normalised standards. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code
As for TH Swiss, thy say that 'Each Irix lens is equipped with a weather sealed construction which protects the interior against dust and moisture. Thanks to inner seals, our lenses are also protected from accidental water splashes. No matter the journey, you can be confident that our weather sealed lenses will offer you maximum resistance to the extremes.'

Not for those who are into subjects (e.g. timid bugs) that require this extra bit of working distance. Obviously you are not: you are looking for a versatile lens (normal portrait work + macro work) easy to carry around. The Dragonfly doesn't meet your specifications, however it can meet those of other people.

A working distance of 165mm for the Irix Dragonfly 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 versus 129mm for the smc Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 Macro WR is not 'the theory', it's according to specifications and/or measurements.

Yes but no more than with a 65mm of 100mm lens at 2:1. As already explained before in this very thread: at macro distance, depth of field only depends on the magnification ratio, not on the lens's focal length. Depth of field - Wikipedia |

Right. Irix lenses are KA lenses, not KAF. So far (but I don't think their first autofocus lens would be a macro lens).

Since yesterday Irix have posted three video teasers on their YouTube channel: Youtu.be |

The third one reveals the Dragonfly is a lens. Photo Rumors goes one step further and 'guesses' that this lens is a 150mm macro lens. Pretty educated guess I would say, considering that the image below (found on their website: Third Irix Dragonfly lens teaser - Photo Rumors) does not come from the video... :hmm:  Considering that the two lenses already launched by TH Swiss AG under the Irix trademark are available in Pentax KA mount, I chose to post the above in this section. |
