Indeed, the lack of homogeneity (centre - borders - extreme corners) of the DA★ 16-50mm f/2.8 would be even more pronounced with a 16MP sensor (a fortiori with a 24MP sensor) than what appears with a 10MP sensor.
The centre would take full advantage of the increased number of pixels, the borders and extreme corners, not so much.

You can't compare the resolution graphs of these two lenses as published by Optical Limits. The DA★ 50-50mm f/2.8 was tested on the 10MP K10D whereas the DA 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 was tested on the 16Mp K-5 II.

I presume OoKU meant 70-210mm f/4 like the Tamron 70-210mm f/4 Di VC USD. Speaking of which, there is an odd rumour on PENtaxKlub (a group of French people, close to the people managing La Boutique Pentax in Paris): [18/01/2020] DFA 70-210 ou DFA 70-200 f/4 en approche
Translated by yours truly:
'On January 23rd a new lens might be announced, the DFA 70-210 f/4 (or 70-200, because there is a small uncertainty of 10mm with regard to the focal length range). The date of market release will then remain to be known, but it could come very quickly (beginning of February at the latest).
According to some sources, it would be a clone of the Tokina AT-X 70-200mm f/4 PRO FX VCM-S (the same sources that predicted that the DA 11-18 f/2.8 should be a clone of the Tokina 11-20 f/2.8 PRO DX??). Other sources rather indicate that it would be a Pentax version of the very good Tamron 70-210mm f/4 Di VC USD, the firm having bought the rights to the optical formula with a 'high-end' manufacturing based on Pentax specifications and high quality lens elements. The answer very soon!
It doesn't really matter because, if the weight remains light (around 850 grams) and the price too (around €1,000-1,100), this new lens could interest many people.'
They reject with humour the Tokina assumption but they give credit and add flesh to the Tamron one.

They also wrote that the lens should be available quickly thereafter.
I'll add that the announcement will be on Thursday the 23rd in Japan but actually on Wednesday the 22nd at 22:00 UTC.

The difference is that some lenses focus fast whilst some others, including the 55-300 PLM RE, focus almost instantly.

Yes it is, at least when mounted on a K-3 II or a K-1 in crop mode (I haven't tried any other combination).
The D FA★ 70-200mm f/2.8 is not the fastest among its peers (quite the contrary, I'd say), the 55-300mm PLM RE is blazingly fast.

Both patents are a bit old: patent requests were filed in 2015 and published in 2017.
The fist one includes seven examples, all of them trans-standard zoom lenses: - 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 (24x36) (three examples)
- 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 (APS-C)
- 24-340mm f/3.5-6.3 (APS-C)
- 17-70mm f/3.5-5.6 (APS-C)
- 16-80mm f4-6 (APS-C)
It's the patent of the HD Pentax-D FA 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR.
The second one includes five examples, all of them APS-C telezoom lenses: - 50-240mm f/4.5-5.9
- 55-240mm f/4.5-5.9 (two examples)
- 55-250mm f/4.5-6.1
- 55-300mm f/4.2-5.9
It is neither the patent of the HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm f/4-5.8 ED WR nor that of the HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm f/4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE. Some patent without any direct commercial application.

They specifically said 'We may apply this kind of update on other existing lenses' (emphasis added), therefore I don't think they plan to revive discontinued lenses such as the two you mentioned.

When you bought your K-1 you knew the current portfolio of 24x36 lenses together with Ricoh Imaging's roadmap.
If you then imagined that two lenses on the roadmap and three lenses not even on the roadmap (24-90mm f/4 - 24mm f/2.8 - 135mm f/1.8) would be launched over a couple of years, it's you who made an unreasonable assumption and you have no reason to put the blame on Ricoh (nor on Pentax, for that matter, which is a mere brand, not an entity).
As @lsimpkins wrote:
In addition, @kenspo made it clear on this very forum that Ricoh would firstly launch the high-end (pro level) lenses. @asahi man said no differently.

When somebody buys into an ecosystem, one can only use what said ecosystem has to offer.
But into Canon or Nikon DSLRs: no camera with IBIS, no choice.
I you're not happy with the current offer of Pentax 24x36 equipment and can't wait for additional lenses to be released, you're free to go for an alternative. Nobody points a gun at your head to oblige you to stay with Pentax, as nobody obliged you to buy a K-1 even though the choice of 24x36 lenses was limited (no pun intended).

It very much depends (on God knows what): the K-1's launch price was moderate whereas the KP's launch price was pretty high, in particular in Europe.

^ Considering the same product, yes. Here we are talking about two different products, HD Pentax-D FA★ 85mm f/1.4 and HD Pentax-D FA 70-200mm f/4. As I wrote, 'Ricoh are looking for margins [I didn't write 'profit'], not revenue.
