Hi all,

Seems I've taken a bit of a hiatus from PF. No reason, other than general life stuff and lack of spare time...
Hope you're all well. This was one of the rare times I took some landscape photos last year.

500CM, Planar 80/2.8, Kodak Portra 160

This particular roll features scratches over most of the photos  Guess I won't be going to this cheap and convenient lab again...
With that said, I like how this one turned out as a kind of happy accident. Deliberately let the colours go off a bit to add to the messy look.

That's lovely :D I visited Cradle Mountain NP and went to Marions Lookout back in 2012. What a wonderful place.

Wow, that would have been a gold mine for a VW enthusiast

I finally tried out the new Ektachrome recently in 120. Amazing colour and contrast from this film; in some cases I had to tone things down slightly after scanning.

So Bannock bread and Tim Hortons... thanks for the education, I'd not heard of either of those :o

It's hard to say what is considered a general comfort food here in Australia. Perhaps the humble meat pie.

Ok. I have heard that the colour reproduction qualities of LED light sources varies a bit, however my guess is that it wouldn't be enough to explain the inconsistencies you are seeing. Wish I had some suggestions or advice :(

So you've got some of the new Ektachrome in 120. How do you like it? :)

So you've ordered the standard Epson film holder from the V700/750?
Interesting indeed. I prefer to use the Betterscanning holder as it's a bit more sturdy and adjustable. I think the standard film holder can sometimes do a better job of holding the film tight to avoid sagging though. Really I wish there was an easier solution that worked all the time. I get frustrated having to re-scan after the film sags in the holder or the level isn't quite right etc. I find it varies a lot with each roll - whether the film sags or curls etc.

Yeah, me too! :D

And thanks for the thoughts regarding scanners, all. It makes sense what Colton and others have said.
I use the V700 and am mostly happy with it. The most annoying problem I have is film flatness issues, especially 120. I find that it often sags in the holders and it can be a battle to get a flat scan. This is even when using the fancy Betterscanning holders

It's interesting that you are getting better results with the Epson even though in theory it cannot resolve as much detail as the Plustek.
A good reminder perhaps that resolution isn't everything.

Surely the risk of something getting damaged in the post over a relatively short distance is minimal?
I recently did a mail order of 11 rolls to a lab in Sydney. That's the other side of the continent from where I live, almost 4000km! Apart from taking a long time due to covid-inflicted freight delays, everything was fine.
Being in an isolated city with few lab options, many other film shooters I know regularly post their film. I'm yet to hear of something getting damaged.

Hi all, long time between posts! Hope you're all well enough with this horrible global pandemic :(

Recently I got a lot of colour and slide developed that I'd been hanging onto for way too long. The photo below is Velvia 50 that expired some years ago. The whole roll has a soft warm tint to it which I kind of like.

You may want to stock up asap. Kodak have announced a price rise effective 1 January 2020, and Freestyle have said that it will be a 15-30% increase on the retail prices. :(

I agree, I've been looking forward to these pinhole photos.

Thanks Steve for your generous comment. :o
You've helped to give me encouragement to go out again - despite hot temperatures and harsh lighting.
On a different note - how good are these cheap Kodak colour films for street shooting? Normally I stick with the 'pro' stuff however have really enjoyed Colorplus and Gold 200 recently. The "Christmas?" photo was taken in very contrasty and harsh lighting in the middle of the day in summer. Will have to buy some more before the price rise...
