Great landscape photos.:) My objection to many HDR photos is that they appear too flat and have insufficient contrast; your photos IMO are diminished somewhat because of inadequate contrast.

I use the K100 not the istD, but the folowing may apply:
"Two custom settings are needed to change in order to get AF confirmation as well as metering with the manual lens. FL (focus lock) with S lens used
default is 'Not Available, you need to turn this to 'Available' so that AF confirmation can be obtained in M42 lens Using Aperture Ring
default is 'Prohibited' and you need to turn this to 'Allowed' so that aperture can be metered in stopping down with the M42 lens."
Good luck! :)

My most daring experimentation in photography over the last five years has been into the arena of infrared photography - especially what is called "faux-color" IR. This type of photography requires very different hardware and extra, specialized post processing to achieve what IMO can be a beautiful work of art. This practice of experimentation and much trial and error has allowed me to explore more "outside the box" in regular, visible-light photography. :)

I'm not a fan of this "look." To me, it looks washed out - like uncontrolled lens flare. I prefer my colors to be bold and my photos to have strong contrast. But, that's just me; I'm also a big supporter of experimenting in the field and in post processing.:D

The 50mm Macro Preset with the dent in the filter ring and no caps and no case sold for $180 on eBay. The prices on these are climbing.

That's one foremost on my radar right now. :) The last one that sold on eBay was in excellent condition and sold for $202. Me, I'm a bargain hunter, and that was about twice what I had budgeted. :(
There's another closing today on eBay: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
It's in my budget range, but has a slight dent in the rim (might have been dropped), and I'm concerned whether or not a sunshade/filter can still be screwed into the lens.:hmm:
Here's another newly-listed 50mm Preset Macro: eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
There appear to be some small cosmetic issues.

I did not experience any problems with flare, but in all fairness, I was experimenting with a circular polarizer on this day as well.

This lens works well for architecture photos; one of my favorite subjects to photograph (they don't move!). :) |

The ST105 is a new lens for me. I wanted to see on a tripod what maximum DOF could be obtained; against my dark green velvet background, I thought it would work fine. Used my cheapo Home Depot three-floodlamp system with 100 watt natural light bulbs: One level from left; another top down from right; and the third level straight in front. :)
