You may want to keep looking! You've hit a gold mine! Great shot and feel to that. Wow.

Actually that is not the lens I found. That review is either an earlier or later model with the tak style stop down button on the body. They may have similar optics, I don't know my mine is different.

In a word....WOW. Thanks. After I get some time with this guy, I'll put some stuff up too. Hmmmm....I could put this on my M42 bellows...

Hate to say it but I picked it up in the shop for $135 USD. Ok, feeling good now that for once I may have gotten a deal. :)
I will also say that it really is unusual and is buttery smooth on the focus throw. Going to have to work with this in the coming weeks.

I picked up a Asahi Optical Co. Macro-Takumar 50mm f4 lens at a camera store recently. Not finding a review of this lens on the forum and only finding one solid hit in a forum search, apparently this is a relatively rare lens that can go to 1:1. I'm wondering if it's an SMC lens as it's not labeled that? It is an M42 lens and the only info I learned here is that it is a 'preset' lens. I'm not sure what that means although the shop clerk did point out to me how to set the f-stop and then also how to use the other f-stop ring to open the iris to focus and return it to it's setting to take the shot. If that's all preset means, then I get that.
Anyway, if anyone has any other insights into this lens, I'd love to hear about it.
