Absolutely lovely series there Sandy. Great plug for both lenses. ;)

By modern I meant the DFA and DA* lenses that are making the cameras look disproportionately small. And I also mean the best and latest lens coating treatments that prevent the most ghosting and distasteful flare without affecting image quality. The kind of results being currently enjoyed by DFA 24-70, 70-200 and 150-450 lens owners.
Yeah, the Ltd series are always great to compare with: you can't improve on perfection ;)
I had the DA 14 for a while. I just didn't bond with it well, so I parted ways with her.
Hard to know what makes a lens's focusing system capable of QuickShift, but I would wager that the HD FA 35 was a quick lens development that essentially brought the FA 35 into the modern era without much effort (just put in weather seals and churn it through).

Yep. Hope so, but I'd like more with QuickShift in keeping with the DA Ltds along with the modern coatings and WR.

The modern lenses are starting to dwarf the cameras. I hope Pentax still support their form factor primes in future, the likes of DA and FA Ltds tick all the boxes for me, and mean that the camera bag remains light and small.

True, though having 11mm is considerably wider than 15mm. That's the versatility of this zoom.
Indeed, the DA 15 is one of the reasons I decided to move my DA 12-24 along, which was an absolute stunner of a lens, but it too had a chunky front element and lens hood, making it bulky in the camera bag, although not overly so (the DFA 15-30 is just another level).
The 11-18 will certainly be a similar consideration.

I had a brief fling with this plastic fantastic, and I must say it performed brilliantly on my K-5 and K-5 Its.
So sharp and colours popped. Plenty of micro contrast detail. But then, the 31 was just beckoning to be used again and I just couldn't ignore it any longer.

Okay mee, let's put it to rest now. The KP is not what you want to buy for a camera body, regardless of whether it is tried or not. That's fine. No need to keep trying to justify your stance. Others, the KP is certainly a great crop camera, and some people will not consider it on the basis of written specs/measurements rather than a test drive, so if after expressing objective experiences with the camera there remains disagreement, it's time to let it go... before I break out in song with Let It Go...
This thread is really supposed to be about the DA* 11-18, not about "Why I won't buy a KP"...

Not getting involved in this discussion myself, but I would like to request there to be a tone-down on the personal remarks and near-taking-offence sentiment to people's experiences with the KP and K-70 here.
mee, I do believe there is a fundamental issue here that is at odds with what you keep asserting (that the KP doesn't have the right 'fit' for you).
You *really* should consider holding a KP +/- grip in your hands before considering it an unsuitable fit, since just about all Pentax dSLRs have been hand-in-glove ergonomics for hands big and small.
Otherwise your objection to the KP is only going to create waves without justification. People will tend to respond kindly to an admitted lack of experience but less so towards assertions without an experiential basis.
Whilst you wait for the K-3 II replacement, there is always a K-3 II.
