Thanks Jez. The more I use it the more it impresses me, though I'm moving on from it to the DA 35 f/2.4 now since I have the DA 12-24 and Tamron 28-75...

Jez, your lightpainting shot looks eerie, with the painter's legs separated from his body. :p
Your images though are well rendered and processed.

Good work loco. Nicely bright, colourful and lively.

That's an exaggeration.
The lens may be f/5.6 max at 55mm, but autofocusing is very zippy on a K-x, K-7 or K-5, even in low light. I have had few instances where the cameras have had to hunt for over a second, and if so, then it's because there's just not enough light on the subject for it to focus on, and quick shift is warranted.

Thanks Paul.
What I noticed particularly with the streetlights, as in the Marina Bay Sands shot, is the pronounced coma the lens exhibits. I don't find it repulsive in this particular image, but I can imagine it being problematic in some night captures.

Good work presented here. Well done hs57 - those are harder than they look to get sharp.

These are nice, sharp images from the kit lens.
I too am impressed with it at f/8, barely noticing any image softness at 100% other than the edges: |

Gene, the pretty women make the kit lens shine. ;)
I do like the abstract creation snofox.
Well done with it.

Lady in red has made the kit lens spectacular even if just for a moment. ;)

It's very close to as it came out of the box.
Some addition of contrast with curves and levels, and it was done.
ISO 1600 on the K20D in a dark environment. SR and WR both came in handy...

This one... I do like very much.
Striking clarity and effective backlighting. Nice touch with the speckling debris around the moon.

Thanks guys. I am surprised at times how sharp the kit lens can be, and how decent the bokeh is - I do tend to stick to f/5.6 at 18mm and f/8 at 55mm if I want the best from it though.
