My first star trail shot came out doubled?

It may not be zoom creep but I do think it's movement of camera orientation.
It looks like you proved that yourself above. The camera dipped down to a position the tripod could sustain the camera's weight and continued the exposure with those more tangential star trails away from the polaris.
