Peter, I know what you're saying, I haven't used many lenses, and even fewer teles but this one is amazing me... as hard as I keep trying I can't see CAs nor PFs. No matter what and against what do I shoot.
And the resolving power of the lens is stunning, for example the Jay shot is around 75-80% crop!!
thanks, but it's not DA* it's the older FA*. It lacks WR, SDM and closest focus is bit further but if I'd want DA* I'd have to fork out another £450 +
so I'm happy and you still can be green with envy ;)

the first bird is not duck exactly, it's coot
very noisy bird that likes being very teritorial and chases just about everything that's in it's puddle

Here are first shots with FA*300/4.5 on K10D.
I bought that lens in t he morning and spent all afternoon in the park.
Here are some results.
The only PPing was conversion in LR on my standard settings, cropping and resizing.
