Have suffered through that a lot with the Great White Egrets but have it down pat now. Shot with spot metering on white birds and RAW. Both are important to get the perfect exposure but you can often do pretty well with just one if you forget the other. For example, I took this shot of an Egret with wing spread at mid-day in full sun. Normally recipe for disaster but after a summer spent learning I know can count every feather of slightly different shades and this took almost no PP since whatever I did made it worse! https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/74612-nature-da-300-meets-egret-lunch.html
A little bright on top but had to accept that to get the wing detail i wanted. Without spot metering and RAW this would have been a mess regardless of how I PP'ed it.

Swans are magnificent looking creatures. I can appreceate the simple elegance of your shot and only wish the highliights on his/her back were recoverable. Especially like the grey looking water (reflected clouds) with the white bird in lieu of brown/green/blue water.
