The full-sized image isn't as mushy in that area, but the original has greater contrast. I suspect that the "mushiness" can be attributed to the way I pushed/pulled the yellow and green luminescence channels during the B&W conversion, which tended to make the entire tree lighter and less contrasty. My goal in doing so was to make the tree roughly as bright as the lighter portion of the sky to the right of the train.

More from me with this lens. Not sure why, but I'm on a bit of a B&W binge lately:
Shot at F10, F9 and F16, respectively. The last two were with a polarizer (hey, that's not supposed to work on an ultrawide!). All had some manner of dust spot removal in PP, and the last one required some cloning to address some flare issues.

Sometimes, my best shots with this lens happen when I'm not even looking through it:
I find this strange, especially since ultra wide photography is highly sensitive to minor changes in position.

Some shots from a recent beach vacation in Florida:
10mm, F/9
10mm, F/11
13mm, F/8
I've just ordered 12x18 enlargements of these. Can't wait to see them!
Any C&C welcome.
